This is an amazing climb that takes you from just above sea level to 2000+ m altitude! The first part from Scafa to Roccamorice is easy, but the 10km or so after are very steep. An extraordinary climb, for those who like steep climbs I recommend starting from Manoppello scalo towards Roccamorice via Lettomanoppello. The climb from Lettomanoppello to Roccamorice reaches gradients of up to 18%. Climbing to the top of Blockhaus immediately attracts attention with a fantastic panorama.

For those who want to experience an even greater thrill by putting themselves to the test, make the initial part of the climb starting from Manoppello Scalo (at an altitude of 74 m), then passing through Manoppello village and Lettomanoppello. You will see how, after this last town, an initial harmless descent then turns into a deadly climb, reaching even steeper gradients than the main climb, vertiginously touching - albeit slightly - 18%! In Roccamorice, before resuming the march to the summit, catch your breath and recover from the shock by going to admire the sculpture that the village erected to pay homage to the all-time great champion Eddy Merkx, who at Blockhaus in 1967, while still very young, saw him cross the finish line first.

The 2022 Giro d'Italia did most of this as the final climb of stage 9 and it caused huge differences in the general classification. The Giro stage stopped at Mamma Rosa though, but you can continue after to Rifugio Bruno Pomilio and from there on a path to the actual summit.
