I made the crossing from Lake Idro to Lake Garda and back again. A beautiful route with nice views of both lakes. The part in between is reasonably flat with nice bends and indeed along a reservoir with a large dam wall. I cycled this route on a Sunday during the summer holidays when there is a lot of traffic, especially motorbikes enjoying the bends.... read more

Done this climb several times already as part of the GF Colnago. Very quiet and winding road connecting Lake Garda with Lake Idro. Along the way you also pass a higher lake.

The challenging and most beautiful part is the first, up to Navazzo. Then you do the Valvestino. Pretty, not exciting with the view of the lake. I just found a bar-restaurant with a drinking fountain next to it in the small square. If you want to make an effort, before descending to Lake Idro, do Cima Rest-! Found several works in progress but probably because it is late winter

It is practically the longest climb on the Brescia side of Lake Garda. It starts right on the lake at Gargnano and can be considered divided in two. The first part ends at Navazzo, the second at Capovalle after leaving Lake Valvestino. The second part is harder (also because you are more tired). From the top you can descend to Idro and return to the lake in the Salò area, but I consider it a bit busy for my taste...so much so that I might as well return to Garda by taking the reverse route

Beautiful road around the lake. The last portion of the climb to Passo San Rocco is the best. Narrow road that hugs the mountain, many parts are in shade so you can hide from the heat a little bit. Its also amazing descent, quite technical in the first part but then you just fly on the flat around the lake.

Take care though, last time i was here there was a landslide after a heavy rain and the road around the lake was closed, so we had to climb back to Passo San Rocco and go all the way around to get back to Lago di Garda,.

Nice climb that actually consists of 3 stages. First stretch out of Gargnano is about 7km and climbs a 6 per cent average with hairpins above Lake Garda. The sun shining unprotected here makes it feel spicier than it looks (leave early is the tip). Then follows a stretch of about 12km up and down (along the reservoir). Here you cycle along the historic border between Italy and Austria/Hungary before WWI. There was at least as much fighting here as on the western front. For those interested in the history of Europe (see plaque on photo). The last 7km are then ascending a 7% average. Also a nice stretch with hairpins. At the top, apart from a nameplate, there is little to see. Just before the summit is a petrol station where you can score a cafè and refill your water bottles. Then on to Lake Idro or back to Lake Garda.

Beautiful climb with nice views. Nothing special in terms of gradient, but the scenery makes up for a lot.

Beautiful climb along beautiful lake. Take enough to drink, because the sun can be mercilessly hot. Also from the other side it is a climb that is worthwhile. From Capovalle there is a nice descent to Idro Lake.

Mooie klim langs schitterend stuwmeer.
