I don't remember it very well but when cycling on these roads it is easy to identify with the cyclists doing the tour of Flanders......

Fine climb to experience the "Flemish Ardennes". You get moments where it can start to hurt. You do this for the experience and definitely not for the scenery/views

Typical asphalt climb in the Flemish Ardennes. Not the prettiest, but consistently tricky with sections around 8-10％ and a few vicious kinks. You can largely see the climb in front of you, which doesn't make it any easier mentally. Dosing well pays off, as it continues longer than you think.
No cobbles, but it is a regular feature of the race (including Tour of Flanders). Definitely a climb to take if you're in the area.

Not the prettiest climb in the Flemish Ardennes. Just a steep street with houses. Two kinks to 12％ hurt for a while, but otherwise fairly straightforward. You do this one more because of its name. As a matter of fact, there are a few more snappy kinks nearby. The Fox Hole is one of them.
Niet de mooiste beklimming van de Vlaamse Ardennen. Gewoon een steile straat met huizen. Twee knikjes tot 12％ doen eventjes pijn, maar voor de rest redelijk rechttoe rechtaan. Je doet deze veeleer omwille van zijn naam. In de buurt liggen trouwens nog een aantal pittige knikjes. Het Vossenhol is er eentje van.
Not the most beautiful climb view wise and the trafic isn't the best either but it is a good quality asphalt road which is still prefer over the many cobbled ones in the area....
Iconic climb from the Ronde - a straight line. Don't start too fast as the second section is ugly disappointing. Road surface in very good condition. Disadvantage is that it can get very crowded. You must have done the climb once and better several times!

Typical asphalt climb for the Flemish Ardennes. Goes fairly steep but still not that difficult. The scenery is less interesting as you cycle through a residential area. Given the history content and that the road is relatively quiet and the asphalt perfect it is not to be avoided but it is not a topper either.

Gezien het geschiedenisgehalte en dat de weg relatief rustig is en de asfalt perfect is ie niet te vermijden maar een topper is het ook niet.
On 24 May and 1 June, after more than 30 years, I did the climb twice again in eight days. The climb starts on the little bridge over the Zwalm Brook. You see the climb almost entirely in front of you and after the first road to the right (Rozenhoek) the gradient starts to rise. I think this climb is a real three-stage rocket: up a bit, then a bit flatter, a bit steeper and flatter again and finally the last part just steep which continues for quite a long time. If you are in the area then this climb is definitely not to be missed.
Op 24 mei en 1 juni jl. na ruim 30 jaar in acht dagen tijd nog eens tweemaal de beklimming gedaan. De klim begint op het bruggetje over de Zwalmbeek. Je ziet de klim nagenoeg geheel voor je liggen en na de eerste weg naar rechts (Rozenhoek) begint het stijgingspercentage op te lopen. Ik vind deze klim een echte drietrapsraket: een stuk omhoog, dan wat vlakker, weer wat steiler en weer wat vlakker en tot slot het laatste deel gewoon steil wat nog behoorlijk lang doortrekt. Ben je in de buurt dan mag je deze klim zeker niet overslaan.

Cool, typical asphalt climb for the Flemish Ardennes. However, the climb is not that nice, mainly known for the race. All between houses, so if you come for the view you better avoid this one.
Toffe, typische asfaltklim voor de Vlaamse Ardennen. De klim is echter niet zo mooi, vooral bekend door de race. Allemaal tussen huizen, dus als je komt voor het uitzicht vermijd je deze beter.
A monument in the Flemish landscape. Very steep segment with a treacherous spur. The road surface is well tarmacked which makes it a little easier. Not to be missed.

The Berendries shows you at the beginning of the climb what to expect. It looks very steep, but the percentages are not too difficult. With a good pace and the right gear, you can keep the same cadence until the top. The tarmac is nice, but you can have bad luck with the traffic in the street. After the climb you can go downhill on the main road until the next climb.
De Berendries laat je aan het begin van de klim reeds zien wat je te wachten staat. Het oogt enorm steil, maar de percentages zijn niet al te lastig. Met een goed tempo en het juiste verzet kan je éénzelfde cadans tot aan de top behouden. Het asfalt ligt er mooi bij, maar je kan wel pech hebben met de drukte in de straat. Na de klim kan je op de grote baan lekker hard naar beneden knallen tot aan de volgende klim.

The Berendries is above all a slope of doubt. What do you do after Berendries? Do you continue over to Valkenberg-Ten Bosse in the direction of the Muur van Geraarsbergen? Or do you turn after the Valkenberg via the Kanarieberg back to Oudenaarde. Or do you prefer the Molenberg in the direction of the car in Oudenaarde. Always doubting that Berendries. But you always include it in your ride!

De Berendries is vooral een twijfel-helling. Wat doe je na de Berendries. Trek je door over naar Valkenberg-Ten Bosse richting Muur van Geraarsbergen. Of draai je na de Valkenberg via de Kanarieberg terug naar Oudenaarde. Of draai je liever over de Molenberg richting de auto in Oudenaarde. Altijd twijfelen die Berendries. Maar je steekt hem altijd wel in je ritje!
The climb starts almost without you realising it, suddenly you turn slightly and the climb begins.
You can almost see the top already but it is a fairly long climb in which you can not find rest at any time.
Once at the top you can still choose to turn right and do the Elverenberg-Vossenhol (highly recommended!)
De beklimming start vrijwel zonder je het echt beseft, ineens sla je lichtjes een bocht in en begint de beklimming.
Je ziet ongeveer al de top maar het is een redelijk eindje klimmen waarin je op geen enkel moment rust kan vinden.
Eenmaal boven kan je nog de keuze maken op rechtsaf te slaan en de Elverenberg-Vossenhol te doen (een aanrader!)

Well known and therefore popular climb. Steep gradient for a long time with the centre of gravity slightly past the middle. Good tarmac but climb in residential area so there is quite a lot of traffic.
Bekende en daardoor populaire klim. Stevige stijgingspercentage voor langere tijd met het zwaartepunt iets voorbij het midden. Goed asfalt maar klim in woongebied waardoor er vrij veel verkeer is.

Mooi klimmetje, waarop je jezelf eens goed kan testen. De percentages liggen er toch niet om, maar het is geen gemene klim. Let wel op bij het het afdalen, want de rijdt hier door de hoofdstraat van een dorpje met o.a. een schoolgebied.
