Around Thônes, there’s a real choice of short, very steep and very intense climbs.
This one leads to the foot of the Tournette massif.
The tarmac is a bit rough, but still in very decent condition.
The gradients are definitely gruelling. They range from 8 to 15 per cent.
There’s no let-up.
You have to climb right to the end of the tarmac road. Don’t stop at Les Chappes; carry on until you reach the small sign for ‘Belchamp Le Haut’.
Along the way, there are a few views of the Tournette.
A pleasant stretch through the forest.
Be careful: there are two treacherous drainage channels at the start of the descent, which otherwise offers a real chance to pick up speed.
Wait until you’ve passed these two channels…

It's worth pointing out that you can continue for another 400M according to the Climbfinder graph.
