Typical Basque climb, not too long but steep. It is the steepest climb in this direction. The climb is usually the highlight of the Tour of the Basque Country and is also often on the schedule of the Tour of Spain. You ride up through 7 hairpin bends and amidst a wonderful scenery. Even though it is only 5 km long, you will not go wrong. The middle part of the climb is constantly flirting with the 15％ and some short sections of 20％ make it hard to climb. In the past, this climb was often the scene of mythical battles between the Spanish pocket climbers Abilleira, Oliva, Torres, Bahamontes, Galdos and Fuente. The big prize Arrate is also a particularly highly-catalogued competition in Spain.
