Very nice climb.

Absolutely not hard, but you do get the real climber's feeling. No heavy percentages, so the trained cyclist (not me) still gets up here at a nice speed.

The climb starts in Bacharach. A super nice village. It is buzzing with atmosphere and friendliness. Especially in good weather. You first have to cross the cobbled streets and squares with the tourists chatting, shopping or having a drink on a terrace. The castle you see higher up against the flank will have something to do with this :o). If you make a big trip and plan a stop, I would definitely do it here.

I came from the cycle path along the Rhine, and then it took me a while to find where to cross the busy lane and enter the village via a small tunnel.

Once out of the village, the climb begins with an actually not very nice section. It promised to be unspectacular. Few views and not at all the "real" mountain feeling. But after a kilometre or so, you immediately imagine yourself on a mountain col in the high mountains.
With the difference that the percentages are only around 4à5%, so you can also just enjoy yourself. I cycled the last part on the big leaf, which doesn't happen to me often. You can see the road winding a bit in front of you (no endless straight roads hundreds of metres long) until the next bend. That way you have a nice aiming point each time. The hairpin bends are actually a rest, as they are made pretty much flat. In short, a fun climb.

The summit opens onto another road where you can start the descent. At the summit, there is nothing else to see. The road just stops up there :D

Apart from a few cars's and motorbikes's, you don't come across anyone at all. Nor is there a single house to be seen once you leave the village at the bottom of the climb.

Zeer leuke klim.
