A very pleasant climb! It's never a steep climb, but it's mainly the length that makes it a must-do. Not to mention the fact that it takes you to the highest point in Belgium! For a good part of the route, there's a wide cycle path in very good condition.... read more

You don't have much choice when cycling from this region towards Signal de Botrange. Not tough in terms of percentages, but if you have the wind against you here you will curse this 'climb'. Fine as preparatory training for the real mountains. Because of the cycle lane along this busy road - where people often drive too fast - still preferable to the road from Eupen.

Except for its length, this climb is not physically tough, but mentally it hurts because especially the first part seems endless with a long stretch in the beginning until the first bend, which you can really see going up from Jalhay, and the last dead straight stretch of almost 3 kilometres until the road from Eupen (at the end nice views to the back!). The bulk of this does have a good cycle lane. Thank goodness because cars're often driven very fast there. Then you come to the road to Malmedy which fortunately has some more bends and where the percentages soon decrease. From Baraque Michel on there is only a slight slope. By the way, the last part now also has a bicycle lane.
Hard to gauge this one: Fun? Mwah... of course it's a good challenge with lots of altimeters. And there's not really an alternative from Jalhay. The fact that large parts have a bicycle lane does make a difference and the surroundings are beautiful.
