The road surface is very bad so the descent is not particularly pleasant. The first part of the climb is a bit boring but then it is really beautiful. Kind of a goat path the last part. Definitely worthwhile and in my opinion much nicer than Fuente De which is much better known, easier and busier. Here you are alone... read more

Magnificent climb. Heavy, but with nice open view on the picos. After about 4 km there is a turn to the left, do not take it. So just go straight on and then with the curve to the right. Towards the top there are occasional bits of bad road surface but it does get better, don't turn around! There are 3 cattle grids towards the top with a lot of space between the iron bars. Advice: get off; if you break your leg no one will come along, because it is a lonely but beautiful experience to go up here with griffon vultures around you. Going down I took it easy because I am not a good descender, but mainly to enjoy the view!

Prachtige beklimming.

The Salto De La Cabra is like several cols in this region a terrible thing with almost always double figures except after 1,5 km you have 2 calmer kms. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and the first 5 km you have a nice road surface but the last 5 km the road surface is very bad but still passable with a normal road bike.
But this col you climb with the intention of the wonderful view and scenery you cycle in.
Because of the road surface it is rarely on the program of a race.
Highly recommended !
