The little brother of the Morcuera pass is a pleasant and accessible climb, ideal for those looking for a moderate challenge. The little brother of the Morcuera pass is a pleasant and accessible climb, ideal for those looking for a moderate challenge. The route is not too demanding, which makes it perfect for enjoying the scenery without feeling overwhelmed. A highlight is the intermediate section, where after a gentle climb, we find ourselves with a slight descent of 1% and a flat stretch that allows us to regain strength. Creonrecoedae that at this point there is a stone fountain on the right hand side, a refreshing stop is never a bad thing. Traffic is scarce, at least on weekdays, which adds to the experience. The ascent starts by going straight ahead, with a visible signpost indicating the way, while to the left is the route to La Morcuera. The first few metres are the hardest, with ramps if I remember correctly at 11-12% of gradient, although fortunately it is only about 300 metres or so. Overall, a recommendable climb for those looking for a moderate challenge and to enjoy the scenery. Both this pass and the Morcuera, if you go from the bike path, you have a vending machine where you can find hot food, snacks, bike parts...

Very enjoyable. As Jeroen says, smooth quiet roads, lovely scenery, and a work out without being too hard. Significantly easier than the nearby Morcuera, I would say, but worth doing, especially if like me today you haven't been on the road bike in a while.

The Puerto de Canencia is a nice and very beautiful climb. The climb is not too difficult, although the first part in Miraflores starts a lot steeper than the 7% indicated here. Fortunately, this only lasts for about 500 metres. The climb goes through a beautiful pine tree forest and you will be treated to many views along the way. There are vistas where you can see Madrid (which lies 50 kilometres to the south). During the climb there is a sign every kilometre with the percentages of the climb. The road surface is top, also on the other side. A nice downhill ride. There is hardly any traffic, but sometimes tough Spaniards who drive fast uphill :)
This climb is a must! Also very nice in a loop in combination with the Puerto de la Morcuera.
