The climb to Passo Falzerego from this side is more difficult than from Cortina d Ampezzo. The traffic was OK, in the direction of DH there is brand new asphalt. The finish offers super views.
Good closing loop with Giau and falzarego returning to Selva.
Coming from Arabba, you start the Falzarego climb from Andraz, just before Cernadoi shown on the profile. This version of the climb is circa 12km if you continue from the top of Falzarego to the top of Passo Valparola. I really enjoyed the climb with some nice views. It is also a good descent in the dry and not too busy.
From Caprile you are also right on the Passo Fedeaia and Passo Giau. Compared to these two climbs, the Passa Falzarego is a nice climb that you don't necessarily have to do on the lightest gear. The climb is fairly constant, you won't actually encounter double percentages. The last kilometres with the rock tunnel and the hairpin turns against the rocks are very beautiful.
Vanuit Caprile zit je ook zo op de Passo Fedeaia en Passo Giau. Vergelijken met deze twee beklimmingen is de Passa Falzarego een fijne beklimming die je niet per se op het lichtste verzet hoeft te doen. De klim is vrij constant, dubbele percentages kom je eigenlijk niet tegen. De laatste kilometers met de rotstunnel en de haardspelbochten tegen de rotsen op zijn erg fraai.
Beforehand, I thought that this climb would be easy because of the lack of steepness. But because of the length I had to suffer a lot. I did this side of the Falzarego after a long run-up of 120km and about 2700hm, and was still completely empty on top. What is nice is that there really are some longer stretches of false flat where you can make good pace to shorten the kilometres to the top. Also, you ride most of the time in the shadow of the top, which provides the necessary cooling. The tarmac on the way is very good and the last few kilometres to the top are spectacular, because you are out of the trees. As a reward, you get a beautiful descent at the back towards Cortina.
Vooraf dacht ik dat deze klim door het gebrek aan steilte goed te doen zou zijn. Maar door de lengte heb ik toch behoorlijk afgezien. Ik deed deze kant van de Falzarego na een lange aanloop van 120km en zo'n 2700hm, en was bovenop alsnog helemaal leeg. Wat prettig is, is dat er echt een paar langere stukken vals plat zijn waar je goed tempo kunt maken om de kilometers tot de top flink in te korten. Ook rijd je het grootste gedeelte in de schaduw van de boven, wat voor de nodige verkoeling zorgt. Het asfalt onderweg is erg goed en de laatste paar kilometers naar de top zijn spectaculair, omdat je uit de bomen bent. Als beloning krijg je aan de achterkant een prachtige afdaling richting Cortina.

Nice ongoing climb, including turn in a tunnel. The view of the pass is (as everywhere in this region) phenomenal. Once at the top, you can descend towards Cortina or take the steep kilometre to the Valparola. Through the latter you can make a nice round trip towards Corvara and the Sella Ronda.
Mooie lopende klim, inclusief bocht in een tunneltje. Het uitzicht op de pas is (net als overal in deze regio) fenomenaal. Klim start via enkele haarspeldbochten langs het kerkje van Caprile , gevolgd door rustig draaiende en klimmende weg door de naaldbossen en zelfs enkele stukken licht dalend. Vanaf T-kruising in Cernadoi (10,5km) start de nummering van de 17 laatste haarspeldbochten met hoogteaanduiding die optellen naar de top en geleidelijk de boomgrens overstijgen en voor prachtig uitzicht zorgen op besneeuwde Dolomietentoppen.
Laatste kilometers fiets je door 2 galerieën en draait bocht 14 zelfs in en door rotstunnel.
Drukke toeristische top is kruispunt van 3 wegen (Caprile/Cortina/La Villa) met kabelbaan, parkings en de nodige horeca. Was door zijn strategische ligging in Eerste Wereldoorlog decor van artillerie- en loopgravengevechten.
Zeer mooie lange niet te zware klim met fantastische vergezichten!
