Beautiful gentle climb, where for the first 7km you are basically just going full on. The many hairpin turns are great and the steep percentages particularly constant. With a compact (34/32) I could stay around 90 cadence although the stretches around 12-14％ are really murderous. After the village, you are indeed suddenly rewarded with great views. And not unimportantly; the descent on the other side you can pop off wonderfully.
Prachtige rustige klim, waar je de eerste 7km eigenlijk alleen maar aan vol aan het gaan bent. De vele haarspeldbochten zijn geweldig en de steile percentages bijzonder constant. Met een compact (34/32) kon ik rond de 90 cadans blijven al zijn de stukken rond de 12-14％ zijn echt moordend. Na het dorpje wordt je inderdaad ineens beloond met een geweldig uitzicht. En niet onbelangrijk; de afdaling aan de andere kant kan je heerlijk vanaf knallen.

You do this climb for the first part: the 15 hairpin bends from Blumau to Steinegg . It is a steep, constant climb. The views of the valley containing Bolsano are magnificent. There is only local traffic. After the village of Steinegg the view changes and you look at the Schlern/Rosengarten massif. Percentages never drop below 10％ so you get enough time to enjoy the view. The climb continues for quite a while but it doesn't get too hard: the pine forests are more reminiscent of the Eiffel than of the Dolomites. You pass many gasthof/berghof/albergio's along the way. Tourism in this area relies heavily on family-run hotels. The language is German. There is not really a top, but there is a short descent to Gummer. Here you can descend further towards Bolsano (bring your lights!) but usually you cycle on towards Welschnofen to climb the Karen Pass.
Deze klim doe je voor het eerste stuk: de 15 haarspeldbochten vanuit Blumau naar Steinegg . Het is een steile, constante klim. De uitzichten op het dal met daarin Bolsano zijn schitterend. Er is alleen lokaal verkeer. Na het dorpje Steinegg verandert het uitzicht en kijk je op het Schlern/Rosengarten massief. Percentages komen nergens meer onder de 10％ dus je krijgt genoeg tijd om van het uitzicht te genieten. De klim loopt nog een heel stuk door maar echt zwaar wordt het niet meer: de dennenbossen doen meer aan de Eiffel denken dan aan de Dolomieten. Je passeert onderweg eindeloos veel gasthof/berghof/albergio's. Het toerisme in deze streek leunt erg zwaar op familiehotels. Voertaal is Duits. Er is niet echt een bovenaan, maar er volgt een korte afdaling richting Gummer. Hier kun je verder afdalen richting Bolsano (neem verlichting mee!) maar meestal fiets je door richting Welschnofen om de Karenpass te beklimmen.
