High expectations but very very disappointing. The cobbles are nice and it is very steep at the foot but once past the castle car park you turn onto the main road. You see nothing of the reservoir and the views are really better in other places around Vianden. A particularly moderate slope for this region. I would actually want to avoid this one forever. It's tarmac is good but there is quite a lot of traffic.... read more

It's tarmac is good but there is quite a lot of traffic.

The cobbles make it a special and tough start as you turn right up the mountain. This is also the steepest part. The climb then starts right away. continues nicely, and sometimes it seems like you can't make any progress because of the wide road and the fact that you can see quite far ahead. The views over the valley are very nice.
After a little up and down, it can be extended towards waisse wak to climb an additional approx. 2.5km.

The start from Vianden over the cobblestones makes this climb unique. Apart from being very bumpy, it was also quite steep. Leaving Vianden, you come to a large two-lane road with perfect tarmac and quite a bit of traffic. In the beginning, you have a nice view of the castle. After that, you mostly drive through stretches of forest. It is not really hard and steep, but the wide road makes you feel like you have hardly any speed. After about 5 km you reach the top. After that, there is a small descent and a short climb to the real summit but that is not much.

One of the longest climbs in Luxembourg that I have been able to find. Vianden is beautiful and the first part over the cobblestones, which are in good shape, makes it special. After that good tarmac and percentages which are good to do. At the top you have a nice view over the river and road below.

First part through Vianden is great over the cobblestones, and as soon as you change to asphalt you are treated to a beautiful view of the castle of Vianden.
Then you go right into the woods towards the lake (which you can not see by the way) and after some swinging you have during the spur fantastic views on the right side.

Seriously long climb and over 300 altimeters. First part on cobblestones is nice and still quite steep. Then a wide road with regular bends. First nice view of the castle, then good but not special.

The long spur is nothing special. The first part from Vianden over the cobblestones is fun!
