Before the hairpin bend is the toughest part, after that it becomes clearly calmer and you can keep going nicely. At the top you have open views over the hilly country.
Heerlijke loper in Zuid-Limburg tussen Slenaken en Heijenrath. Vanaf de Gulp loopt hij vlot omhoog over een brede weg met goed asfalt, waardoor je makkelijk ritme vindt.
Voor de haarspeldbocht zit het zwaarste stuk, daarna wordt het duidelijk rustiger en kun je mooi doortrekken. Boven heb je open uitzicht over het heuvelland.

One of the five roads to leave my hometown and certainly the most famous of the four climbs around the village. The climb starts at the bridge over the Gulp and is a nice runner. If you choose the right gear, an experienced cyclist can ride up the big slab without any problems. The steepest parts are just after the holiday house on the left side of the road and in the hairpin bend near the Flabberweg. At the top of the Heijenrath plateau there are opportunities to descend to Gulpen, Mechelen, Epen and Teuven.
Een van de vijf wegen om mijn woonplaats te verlaten en zeker de bekendste van de vier beklimmingen rond het dorp. De klim begint bij de brug over de Gulp en is een lekkere loper. Als je het juiste verzet kiest kan je als geoefende fietser zonder problemen op de grote plaat naar boven rijden. De steilste stukken zitten net na de vakantiewoning aan de linkerkant van de weg en in de haarspelbocht t.h.v. de Flabberweg. Boven op het plateau van Heijenrath mogelijkheden om af te dalen naar Gulpen, Mechelen, Epen en Teuven.
I think this one is in just about every tour race in the area. This year I travelled to Gulpen again to train and again I saw entire platoons whizzing past. The climb is good to do, nice tarmac, wide road no problem.
Deze zit volgens mij in zo ongeveer elke toertocht uit de omgeving. Dit jaar weer naar Gulpen afgereisd om te trainen en ook dit jaar weer hele peletons voorbij zien zoeven. De klim is goed te doen, mooi asfalt, brede weg geen centje pijn.

The climb of the Loorberg is easy to do. It is not very steep and the tarmac is good. Indeed a lot of traffic, but fortunately the road is wide so there is enough space to pass. The view is beautiful and always nice to ride in a hairpin bend in the Netherlands.
De klim van de Loorberg is goed te doen. Het wordt niet echt steil en het asfalt loopt lekker. Inderdaad wel veel verkeer, maar gelukkig is de weg breed waardoor er voldoende ruimte is om te passeren. Het uitzicht is mooi en altijd leuk om in Nederland een haarspeldbocht te kunnen rijden.
Nice climb with relatively high traffic, it never gets really steep so this climb is a real runner. The risk is that you start too fast and fall silent before the hairpin. In short dosage.

Neat climb. You can do it (if you are not broken yet) on the big plateau. Then you can accelerate nicely. Make sure you don't stall by starting too hard, because for a sprint from bottom to top it might be just too long. Especially in comparison with other hills in the area, like the Eyserbosweg. But an absolute must.
Keurige klim. Je kan hem (als je nog niet stuk zit) op de grote plateau doen. Dan kan je ineens ook eens lekker doortrekken. Let wel dat je niet stil valt door te hard te starten, want voor een sprint van onder tot boven is hij misschien net te lang. Zeker in vergelijking met andere hellingen in de buurt, zoals de Eyserbosweg. Maar een absolute aanrader.

With good legs, you can in the hairpin turn a gear heavier and feel free to push past the hotel.

In weekenden en andere vrije (feest)dagen wemelt het hier van de fietsers, zeker als het mooi weer is. Met goede benen kan je in de haarspeldbocht gerust een tandje zwaarder schakelen en dan aanzetten tot voorbij het hotel.

One of the more notorious climbs in Limburg. A nice wide road up through the forest. The loorberg seems easier than it really is. The real diehards I would recommend halfway the climb to turn left into the cherry path.
Een van de beruchtere klimmetjes in Limburg. Een mooie brede weg omhoog door het bos. De loorberg lijkt wel makkelijker dan hij daadwerkelijk is. De echte diehards zou ik aanraden om halverwege de klim, links het kersenpad in te slaan.
Nice typical Limburg climb, not too long, not too steep. From Slenaken you turn and then you can give it some more gas, if you can keep on pedalling until the hairpin bend, then you are in the right place for your Strava segment, just through the bend you can get on your pedals and sprint away.
Do you want something different, take the small path on the right before the house; Kersenpad, here it goes up to over 10％ uphill. Another variant is to take the Flabberweg in the last right hand bend, a narrow road that requires some extra effort.

This climb gives me a strong feeling of southern Limburg. At the start you ride over a stream, you have beautiful views of the valley, there is a hairpin in it and you even have something to focus on (hotel at the top). Even if it is not the end. Should not be missed when cycling in this region.
Bij deze klim krijg ik een sterk Zuid-Limburg gevoel. Bij de start rij je over een beek, je hebt prachtig uitzicht op het dal, er zit een haarspeldbocht in en je hebt zelfs iets om je op te richten (hotel op de top). Ook al is dat niet het einde. Mag niet ontbreken als je een keer fietst in deze streek.

Also for me, one of the favourite climbs in South Limburg. I usually opt for the gentle approach via Beutenaken/Slenaken and then BAM, against it. This climb can really give me a sense of speed, wonderful runner.
