Coming from Beddgelert (Nant Gwynant), I rode this easy and steady climb up the fairly busy A498. You cycle past the majestic Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) here and that mountain is always in view. At the top of the pass is a cosy youth hostel where the food and drink is good, and cosy too, with lots of mountain walkers in particular. This region attracts many outdoor sports enthusiasts. The traffic can be annoying, but you certainly shouldn't put up with it, as the ride is great. Alternatively, a (p... read more

The traffic can be annoying, but you certainly shouldn't put up with it, as the ride is great. Alternatively, a (partly) unpaved road runs along much of the A498. Not easier, but quieter. Drive the route to Pen-y-Pass especially the other way from Llanberis. You sometimes imagine yourself in the Pyrenees here.
