A pleasant climb, which wasn’t too busy. The hairpins after La-Roquette-sur-Var is the hardest part of the climb, with some slightly steeper gradients than average, and sharp bends that force you to slow down and re-accelerate if you are going fast. The top section is flatter though, and less interesting.... read more

Best done on a Sunday morning to reduce the amount of traffic (especially lorries). Pleasant steady climb. Flat from the 6th km. Time taken at the start of the flat section 34 mins ("la porte rouge" area) as the rest is of no interest.

Climbed during the Paris-Nice 2022 challenge (13 March), cold day with a strong wind. First climb after approaching the valley. A nice climb. Regular with a good road surface. Especially in March, very quiet with traffic. Nice view over the valley and the river Var. The climb is regularly visited by pros who live in the area (Monaco!). This climb was part of the Tour de France in 1981 (1st on Bernard Hinault) and in 1964 (1st on Frederico Bahamontes).
