Lower section is all single track with grass/mud strip down the middle and has a couple of steep 17% sections. Very inconsistent climb with some flat/descent sections that make the average gradient look a bit easier. Lower section is all single track with grass/mud strip down the middle and has a couple of steep 17% sections. Wouldn't recommend for a typical road bike with thin/slick tyres unless it hasn't rained for ages. Also encountered some bark-y dogs at the farm, although at least they didn't chase me. Once you get to the exposed section the views are stunning, but it can be sketchy if it's windy. I prefer the main Hay side ascent, and definitely would recommend descending via the Hay side.
