A very pleasant climb with several very pretty viewpoints, particularly from the belvedere at the top of the climb.

Woow, just wow. I did this climb, well, rather a long false flat ascending stretch of 20 kilometres from Villes-sur-Auzon because I wanted a warm-up for Ventoux from Sault and didn't want to just take the shortest route. It was mid-September and around 9am, and I hardly encountered any motos and cyclists. I recommend the side from Auzon because it takes you 40-70 minutes to ride up along an insanely beautiful landscape, and so you have plenty of time to constantly look around you without having to really suffer on the bike. Ideal for everyone's level, slowly ascending, away from all the hustle and bustle of the Ventoux, all alone in nature. I personally think this is one of the most beautiful moments I've already had on a bike.

Ik deed deze klim, nu ja, eerder een lange vals plat oplopende strook van 20 kilometer vanuit Villes-sur-Auzon omdat ik een opwarmertje wou voor Ventoux vanuit Sault en niet gewoon de kortste weg wou nemen. Het was halverwege september en omstreeks 9u in de ochtend, en ik ben nauwelijks enkele motos en fietsers tegengekomen. Ik raad de kant vanuit Auzon aan omdat je dan gedurende 40 tot 70 minuten langs een waanzinnig mooi landschap omhoog rijdt, en je dus tijd genoeg hebt om constant rond je te kijken zonder echt te moeten afzien op de fiets. Ideaal voor ieders niveau, langzaam stijgend, ver weg van alle drukte van de Ventoux, helemaal alleen in de natuur. Ik vind dit persoonlijk een van de mooiste momenten die ik al op de fiets heb gehad.

An absolute must on both the way up and the way down. The tarmac is perfect and the slope is never difficult, so you can get your legs moving! Watch out for the heat and other road users. I did this one in the early 1990s on my Peugeot Monaco. My first climb! I can still remember what a thrill the descent gave: driving 40 km/h for three quarters of an hour without having to pedal once. (And in the evening a free performance by Michel Legrand on a stage of trestles and boards against the side of the church in Carpentras. Almost as beautiful as that descent)

(En ‘s avonds een gratis optreden van Michel Legrand op een podium van schragen en planken tegen de zijkant van de kerk in Carpentras. Bijna net zo mooi als die afdaling)
A long climb, often with the wind at your back in that direction. Lots of people present, ideal for testing your level. The surface is good but it can be tricky.

A very exotic climb. The gorges are magnificent. However, at weekends and during the summer there is a lot of traffic. You pass through small tunnels along the cliffs, and the finish at the Belvedere is always impressive!
Montée très dépaysante. Les gorges sont magnifiques. Par contre en week-end et période estivale beaucoup de circulation. On passe dans des petits tunnels le long de la falaise, l'arrivée au Belvédère est toujours impressionnante!

Not much to add to what everyone else has to say about this stunning ride – one of the best in the region of its type. A gradient that makes it doable for almost anyone and scenery to marvel at.
Just be careful of the traffic, especially on the descent. Motorbikes LOVE this route and take the bends wide. In 2023 I witnessed a collision which sent a car over the edge - fortunately it's plummit to the river 200m below was arrested by the trees and the two occupants were shaken but unhurt. Nevertheless, because of the very smooth road surface it can feel like a race-track and drivers take advantage.
The climb is an absolute MUST! It is not really steep and leads through a breathtaking landscape. There is a viewing platform at the summit. The car traffic was limited, but there were quite a few motorcyclists out and about in the fine weather today. The road surface is immaculate.

if your in this region, you simply have to ride this gorge either as a warm-up for the Sault side of the Ventoux or as a brilliant way to end a ride doing either of the other two sides....or perhaps the circumnavigation of the Ventoux which is a solid 100km with the Nesque?

Beautiful surroundings, you can't help but stare your eyes out. Easy climb, never gets really steep. The higher you climb through the gorge, the more beautiful the view becomes.

Very nice surroundings and good tarmac. Nice to drive. Never gets steep. The whole climb is mostly between 2 and 5 degrees. Little car and motorbike traffic. In some parts there is a lot of sun but there are also parts where there is more shade. You pass through several small tunnels. Although not very challenging in terms of climbing, definitely recommended. Good warm-up for the climb of the Ventoux from Sault.
Hele mooie omgeving en goed asfalt. Leuk om te rijden. Wordt nooit stijl. Hele klim veelal tussen de 2％-5％. Weinig auto- en motorverkeer. Op sommige delen veel zon maar wordt afgewisseld met stukken waar meer schaduw is te vinden. Je komt door verschillende kleine tunneltjes. Hoewel het qua klimwerk geen grote uitdaging is, zeker een aanrader. Goede opwarmer voor de klim van de Ventoux vanuit Sault.
A mini Grand Canyon.... Breathtakingly beautiful. Can serve as a warm-up for the harder work or just include it in a longer ride. On the whole climb, there is only one cottage with a shop where you can taste/buy dozens of types of honey.
Een mini Grand-Canyon.... Adembenemend mooi. Kan als opwarmer dienen voor het zwaardere werk of gewoon opnemen in een langere rit. Op de hele klim is er slechts een huisje met een winkeltje waar je tientallen soorten honing kan proeven/kopen.
Lovely route to stretch your legs if you have done Ventoux or considered doing it. Use this loop to take you to Sault where you can re-fuel before tackling Ventoux from the easier side.
Fantastically beautiful with stunning views of the Gorge de la Nesque. I have descended this one, coming from Sault. You don't do this one for the slope, because that is low everywhere, but because it is so beautiful.

Just outside the violence of the Ventoux but it remains in the background, easily accessible from Sault and Bedoin and with a detour over the Madelaine also from Malaucene a beautiful route.
At the end of the sleeping Villes sur Auzon you turn into the Gorges, the top is about 20 km away but with an average of less than 4％ it is a nice warm-up.
You meander along the walls and you go higher and higher above the Nesque river. The views vary and there is even some shade in the far corners of this gorge. The last part is a bit steeper and there are some cut-outs, little traffic and many cyclists enjoying themselves.
At the top there's a viewpoint to take a rest and don't be surprised if a wild boar nibbles at your bike.
Descend to Monieux and the choice to ride back via the south side to Methamis or through Sault and either via the Col d'Abeilles back to Villes sur Auzon or via Sault to Chalet Reynard and then descend to Bedoin.
Net buiten het geweld van de Ventoux maar hij blijft op de achtergrond, makkelijk bereikbaar vanuit Sault en Bedoin en met een omweg over de Madelaine ook vanuit Malaucene een mooie route.
Aan het eind van het slapende Villes sur Auzon draai je de Gorges op, de top ligt zo'n 20 kilometer verder maar met gemiddeld nog geen 4％ is het een mooie opwarmer.
Je meandert langs de wanden en je gaat steeds hoger boven de Nesque rivier fietsen. Het uitzicht varieert en er is zelfs wat schaduw in de uithoeken van deze kloof. Het laatste stuk is iets steiler en er zijn wat uitgehakte korte doorgangen, weinig verkeer en veel fietsers die aan het genieten zijn.
Boven een uitzichtpunt om even te rusten en schrik niet als er opeens een wild zwijn aan je fiets staat te knabbbelen.
Afdalen naar Monieux en de keus om via de zuidkant naar Methamis terug te rijden of door naar Sault en hetzij via de Col d'Abeilles retour naar Villes sur Auzon of via Sault naar Chalet Reynard en dan afdalen naar Bedoin.
Easy climb through a beautiful area, really worth it. little traffic, beautiful panoramas and ideal for Sault to climb the Ventoux (possibly to Chalet Reynard).
