A disappointment. It climbs along the beautiful road shared with the San Donato climb (thus with a nice stretch on a wide, well paved road) until the fork where via Mandolare becomes via Garzola. At that point you turn right to the junction between via San Donato and via Fagnini and obviously take the latter. After a few hundred metres similar to the stretch already travelled (therefore with a very variable gradient and pleasant scenery) we come upon the first really difficult ramp, which is, however, characterised by asphalt in very poor condition. The unevenness of the surface continued for quite a while, and at the umpteenth snap of a stone being thrown from my tyres I decided to turn around and go back. For me, when on a route you are more committed to dodging stones and potholes than to looking at the view or conquering the gradient, then it means that you are no longer on a track for racing bikes. Better a gravel or mountain bike.
