Bijzondere berg. Onderaan wat stijl, zoals alle bergjes vanuit Wijlre, dan zelfs een serieuze afdaling en nog een mooi klimmetje met een geweldig uitzicht aan het einde. Elkenrade is zo'n Limburgs plaatsje wat niemand kent maar een geweldig mooi plekje is. De moeite waard.

The first steepest part is between the railway line and an intersecting field road. Een klim in twee delen. In Wijlre neem je op de Valkenburgerweg de afslag naar Elkenrade. Het gaat gelijk omhoog en tot aan de spoorlijn rij je tussen de huizen en een stukje industrieterrein. Het eerste steilste stuk zit tussen de spoorlijn en een kruisende veldweg. Hierna daal je ongeveer 500 meter af en waar de weg naar rechts afbuigt volgt het tweede deel van de klim over ruim een kilometer in een nagenoeg strak stijgingspercentage naar Elkenrade.

Onverwacht veel klimpunten bij deze klim, maar wel bijna 100 hoogtemeters dus dat zal wel tellen. Het stukje tot het spoor is inderdaad niet mooi (maar zo erg is het nu ook weer niet) maar heel kort dus je bent er zo aan voorbij. Na het spoor wordt het even pittig maar het eind van de bult is al snel in zicht. Daarna een leuke korte afdaling in een mooie omgeving waarna de weg rechtsaf gaat en via een fraaie lange laan met bomen langs het dal omhoog gaat. Niet heel steil en een mooie loper die je uiteindelijk wel voelt. Nadat de bomen langs de weg zijn opgehouden zie je de huizen van Elkenrade al, waar de weg nog wel even tussen doorklimt.
First part is pretty ugly, feels like an industrial area. Second part is super. Beautiful road, fantastic scenery. In one long gentle curve, you climb at an even gradient to the top.
Eerste deel is vrij lelijk, voelt aan als een industrieterrein. Tweede deel is super. Mooie weg, fantastische omgeving. In één lange flauwe bocht klim je aan een gelijkmatig stijgingspercentage heerlijk naar de top.
