I had rented a bike in Chiang Mai but not with very low gears, so for what feels like 2 hours in all I had to stand up and push forward going 5 km/h on the steep ramps.
The climb is up to the highest mountain in Thailand, so of course I can recommend it.
The government doesnt allow you to bike down from the top because its so steep and to perhaps around the last national park gate/entry (bring cash to buy entry ticket), so they have vehicles to take you and the bike down, which were well organized on the race day (no clue how it is on a normal day).
