The hardest part of this climb is between km 1 and km 4, where you overcome more than 300 altimeters (i.e. more than 10% on average). As this climb is quite irregular, you have several sections of 15, 16 or even 18%. After km 4 the hardest part is behind you, but the climb remains steep.

For me it is my favorite pass, from Encamp you go up to Vila and from there you climb it all the way up, the beginning is very steep but it is a very beautiful pass.

This is a tough climb. Be ready for steep. Very quiet though. Nice descent on the other side. Worth riding if you're in the area. Combine it with Coll d Ordino for a nice loop.

Key takeaway is do not look to descend back in to Encamp as it is super steep with negative camber on the many hairpins. For a loop descend into Canillo from Ordino if you can as its more sweeping with higher average safe speed.
As a climb the lower section is a challenge but the road is very light on traffic, and the descent into la Massana is pleasant.

Let's face it, the scenery is not extraordinary but it's a pass often used by the grand tours so it's for enthusiasts. If you don't pass the % of 16-17-18 don't come here. The 1.5 km between 10 and 12 % is deadly. I did it after the ordino pass through Ordino and I am by far not a champion. So it is accessible as long as you get past the severe %.
