Key takeaway is do not look to descend back in to Encamp as it is super steep with negative camber on the many hairpins. For a loop descend into Canillo from Ordino if you can as its more sweeping with higher average safe speed.
As a climb the lower section is a challenge but the road is very light on traffic, and the descent into la Massana is pleasant.

Let's face it, the scenery is not extraordinary but it's a pass often used by the grand tours so it's for enthusiasts. If you don't pass the % of 16-17-18 don't come here. The 1.5 km between 10 and 12 % is deadly. I did it after the ordino pass through Ordino and I am by far not a champion. So it is accessible as long as you get past the severe %.

Qu’on se le dise, le paysage n’est pas extraordinaire mais c’est un col souvent emprunté par les grands tours donc pour les passionnés. Si vous ne passez pas les % de 16-17-18 ne venez pas ici. Le 1,5 km entre 10 et 12 % est mortel. Je l’ai fait après le col d’ordino par Ordino et je ne suis de loin pas un champion. Il est donc accessible pour autant que vous passez les % sévères.
