This is the beautiful road that also leads to Montdenis-Les Villes. But to reach the pass, you have to turn left onto a tiny road, which starts out sandy, then suddenly becomes spotless! In any case, there are no signs. This is just after the fountain. There are no signs announcing the pass. There are no markers. What a pity! This is not the "official" version of the Col du Sapey.
However, this road has almost as many twists and turns as those at Montvernier. The views over the valley are impressive.
The gradients always seem gentle. Passages at 9% go by very well no doubt because you're too busy studying the valley and the switchbacks.
No traffic!
The end is wooded and the gradients are calmer.
At the top, a view of the Aiguilles d'Arves.
They're really far away!
Be careful: falling rocks are no joke! The road is strewn with stones.
A very pretty pass, rather short, rather easy, rather pleasant.

Driving to the foot of this climb is not so cool. But on the climb itself, it is very quiet. Road surface is ok, but especially on the last stretch not so good. That last stretch is very nice though, through a pine forest on the mountainside. The descent afterwards is very tricky at first, as there are many gutters across the width of the road.

A lovely climb on a road that is not very busy but is very exposed to the sun. The descent to Hermillon is steep in parts, with water gullies running through...be careful! Beautiful view of Saint Jean and the Aiguilles d'Arves.

Nice little climb with stunning views and good hairpins. Road surface and next to no traffic make this an enjoyable climb.

A quiet col with little to no traffic with a classic balcony/cliff hugging section that merges into 16 lacets (hairpins). After steady climbing turn off for a flattish section and you are there.

Like the other side from Hermillon, the climb here also starts with a hairpin sequence. Not through the forest, but up via balconies against the bare rock face with no shade, with St.Jean de Maurienne deep below.
Route is therefore identical for the first 7 km to Montdennis/Les Villes (see Climbfinder) before turning left in Grenis.
There then follows a climb through the forest without hairpins on narrow road in questionable condition. Lots of potholes and grooves, but the fluorescent signs indicate that improvement is on the way. They were laying new asphalt
(June 2023) with wide metal water gutters across the road!
At the summit, with panoramic views of the valley, there is nothing apart from a small monument.

Lonely unknown climb starting with spectacular series of turns.

Nice climb while I was there. I set off from La Chambre with the intention of cycling La Toussiere. I didn't want to go back through the valley to my flat, so I did this climb among others. Reminded me a bit of the balcony of Oisains by the nice views on the Maurienne valley. Nice hairpin bends and to climb "okay" road surface. However, the first part of the descent is really bad because of the drains in the road surface, descend slowly otherwise the steering wheel will come out of your hands or your tyres will puncture on the bumps and gullies.

On this side the ascent to the Col du Sapey is only a short diversions from the ascent to Les Villes.
So you can do Les Villes and then return to the valley via the other side of the Col du Sapey which descends to Hermillon.
A very nice loop

https://climbfinder.com/fr/montees/les-villes-saint-julien-mont-denis
