It's an ascent that follows the Mont Cenis pass, there are lovely views over the lakes, the road is a bit of a taubogan, ending in a dead end, you have to make a U-turn. There are quite a few cars and the road is very narrow.... read more

I only did the first part of the climb up to the pass. Compared to the others in the area, it is not very demanding. On the day I did it, there was a lot of head/side wind and even the descent was not easy because of the sudden gusts of wind.

wonderful climb from lanslebourg on wide smooth bitumen road through pine forest and open meadows lead you to col du mont cenis with the stone walls of elephants and cyclists. then take a turn to the right to descend to the lake. sadly a portion of the narrow paved lane to le petit mont cenis has crumpled so i had to walk down the grassy embankment, cross a stream on 2 wooden planks, then climb up the grass back onto the paved path. definitely worthwhile as the path led me across a stunningly beautiful open meadow, mainly uphill with short sharp pinches along a ridge to le petit MC. marmottes everywhere! magnificent area!
