The Col du Grand Cucheron is a wonderfully quiet climb on the way to the bigger cols in the Alps. On paper the climb is not difficult, but with 40 degrees of heat I had a hard time at the end.
The road surface is sometimes good, sometimes with some cracks. The climb meanders through quiet farming country to end later in a forest. The last 3km are at 9% which hurt extra because of the heat. Nice climb, good to get into if you want to cross from Grenoble to the higher cols more to the east.
