The first few kilometres take the D213, which also climbs up to the Col de la Madeleine. It's clear that this version of the Chaussy is struggling to keep up with the stiff competition.
After 4 kilometres of the D213 and its 9％ crossings, we fork right onto the D99. There are no milestones on this version of the Chaussy.
The road is sometimes excellent, sometimes quite rough. The scenery is pleasant but not overwhelming. The gradients are fairly contained. Lots of trees. Far too many trees...
At the top, there's a view of the needles, but we're so far from them.
All the same, we pass a lot of cyclists who have climbed up the switchbacks...

Les premiers kilomètres empruntent la D213 qui grimpe aussi et surtout au col de la Madeleine. Décidément, cette version du Chaussy a du mal à exister tant la concurrence est rude.
Apres 4 kilomètres de D213 et ses passages à 9％, on bifurque à droite sur la D99. Pas de bornes kilométriques sur cette version du Chaussy.
La route est parfois excellente, parfois bien dégradée. Les paysages sont plaisants mais pas renversants. Les pourcentages sont assez contenus. Beaucoup d’arbres. Beaucoup trop d’arbres…
Là-haut, une vue sur les aiguilles mais nous sommes si loin d’elles.
On croise tout de même beaucoup de cyclistes, qui sont montés par les lacets…
Une montée agréable, mais elle ne sera sans doute pas votre coup de coeur en Maurienne.

The road is quiet (12/08/25 around midday) and sometimes narrow. We are generally exposed to the sun, which is unpleasant at the height of summer. But the climb itself is not difficult.
The upper part of the road (in very good condition for the last few kilometres) passes through a beautiful coniferous forest and leads to a beautiful, quiet plateau. There is a water fountain about 100 metres from the hostel on the south side, signposted.
Ascension réalisée en redescendant de la Madeleine, donc depuis la bifurcation D2013-D99.
La route est calme (12/08/25 vers midi), parfois étroite. On est globalement exposé au soleil, ce qui est désagréable en plein été. Mais l'ascension en elle-même n'est pas difficile.
La partie supérieure de la route (en très bon état dans les derniers km) traverse une belle forêt de conifères et débouche sur un beau plateau calme. Une fontaine à eau est disposée à une centaine de mètres de l'auberge, côté sud, signalée par un panneau.
I had already got the first 4 km of the climb, starting from la Chambre, under my wheels 'in the morning on my way to the Madeleine summit. On the descent from this I knotted up with the continuation after the left turn (D99-Montaimont) off the main road. Tough climbing with hairpin turns through the forested flanks. You cycle through narrow streets of small villages where it is sometimes flat for a while. Just before Bonvillard there is a turnoff to Lac du Loup (see CF) to finish the last few kilometres of climbing to the end point after a short downhill.
Summit is a plateau and, besides a wide panorama,has a mountain hut (food&drink) and a drinking water tap.
This side there are no informative cycle posts. The asphalt is mostly a patchwork. There are speed bumps and road narrowing in the small villages to slow down especially the rare descending traffic. There was a lot of descending cycle traffic that day (August 2022) on the way to the Col de la Madeleine, though.
Beautiful lesser-known somewhat hidden quiet climbing side of the Col du Chaussy!

De eerste 4 km van de klim, vertrekkend uit la Chambre, had ik reeds 's ochtends onder de wielen gekregen op weg naar de Madeleine top. In de afdaling hiervan knoopte ik aan met het vervolg na de linkse afslag (D99-Montaimont) van de hoofdweg. Stevig klimwerk met haarspeldbochten door de beboste flanken. Je fietst door enge straatjes van kleine dorpjes waar het soms even vlak is. Net voor Bonvillard is er een afslag naar Lac du Loup (zie CF) om na even bergaf de laatste kilometers klimwerk tot het eindpunt af te werken.
Top is een plateau en heeft naast een weids panorama,een berghut (eten&drinken) en een drinkwaterkraan.
Deze zijde zijn er geen informatieve fietspaaltjes. Het asfalt is meestal een lappendeken. Er zijn verkeersdrempels en weg vernauwingen in de kleine dorpjes om vooral het zeldzame dalend verkeer af te remmen. Er was die dag (Augustus 2022) wel veel dalend fietsverkeer op weg naar de Col de la Madeleine.
Mooie minder bekende wat verborgen rustige klimzijde van de Col du Chaussy!

Ascent on 23/09/2020. A rather difficult climb. Beautiful panoramas. The road surface is not always good (especially the last part). Be careful on the descent (also towards Montvernier), the road surface is sometimes made slippery by water or rain. This pass is definitely recommended. At the top of the pass, a nice gesture: a drinking water tap for passers-by.
Montée le 23/09/2020. Une montée assez difficile. De magnifiques panoramas. La surface de la route n'est pas toujours bonne (surtout la dernière partie). Attention dans la descente (également vers Montvernier), la chaussée est parfois rendue glissante par l'eau ou la pluie. Ce col est définitivement recommandé. Au sommet du col, un beau geste : un robinet d'eau potable pour les passants.
Highly recommended! Most beautiful views in the neighborhood. A groit fairy tale. Certainly the descent with nice weather. Good combinren with the Madeleine.
Regelrechte aanrader! Mooiste uitzichten uit de buurt. Een groit sprookje. Zeker de afdaling met mooi weer. Goed te combinren met de madeleine.
