Ridden in function of the event 'The col on' of Come on Against Cancer. Spicy, but definitely doable. Do leave early as it can get bloody hot on the open stretches.

I was lucky enough, along with my son, to ride the 2023 'DeCOLOP' for KOTK in September. For those who doubt whether this event (and thus certainly the route) is worthwhile, I can only say that it was wonderfully beautiful. Beautiful views, but it can be terribly hot. Often full in the sun on the southern flank. The road surface is pretty OK, but on the descent of the D123 towards Les Saissies there are a few dirty potholes. The view of the Mont Blanc Massif from the Signal De Bisanne is fabulous. You have to add this last bit (eat something in the bus shelter first :-) ), 'in season'there is a cafeteria there.

As shown on Climbfinder, there are several routes to the summit of Les Saisies. Your choice depends on where you include this climb in your route planning and its combination with other cols.
Chose this route over the D123 because of its perfect combination with Signal de Bisanne given their almost entirely joint course. Start therefore indicated behind the church of Villard sur Doron and accompanied by the green and white Signal de Bisanne cycling info signs every kilometre (distance to summit / % next km. / altitude).
Road winds hairpin-like up the valley flank. Alternately through shady forests, small villages with alpine meadows and regularly beautiful open panoramas. From just before Bisanne 1400, the ascent continuously flirts with the 10% until the side road where you can decide to continue the double-digit climb to Signal de Bisanne or give up and take the 2-kilometre plunge down the main road to the roundabout at the entrance to the ski village.
The final kilometre then climbs back through the main street of the ski village to reach the summit plateau with a small church and ample parking at the end, after cycling under a wooden arch.
No top tarmac but from Bisanne 1500 onwards there was (June 2023) a lot of coarse gravel (gravillon) on the road surface. Doable uphill but fairly dangerous downhill. Hopefully this was a temporary problem.

For me personally the best route to Col des Saisies because of hardly any traffic and especially because of its combination with Signal de Bisanne, which you should definitely take.
The organisers of the Belgian charity "Kom op tegen kanker" also knew this because they chose this route for their "De col op" cycling event in September 2023.
