Leaving st jeoire prieuré...first climb...la Boisserette,...but a fine route to do early in the cool. Itinerary....pours on to the Col du Frêne.

A very pleasant climb, with a few tougher sections towards the end, but fairly easy overall.
Beautiful views all the way up and especially at the finish.

Several routes allow access to the Col des Prés from the Valley on the Combe de Savoie side, the one via Challes les Eaux is an interesting variant.
When I looked at Climbfinder I was expecting to add to my collection a small quiet climb which was not the case, the profile corresponds roughly to the one of the road but the average percentage indicated is not representative of the terrain because the climb is very irregular on almost 3 quarters of the climb.
Almost from the start it's a pain in the ass and you have to play with the derailleur, alternating slopes between 4 and sometimes more than 10 % certainly on a few dozen meters...but still!
After Thoiry there are markers with cyclo indications and they attest to the difficulty, never under 9 % and the penultimate one at 10, the final is wearing with long straight stretches in succession and without ever a real yaw, the slope abruptly lies down at the sight of the summit.
Otherwise the Col is beautiful overall with a few shady areas, but it's better to do it in the morning when it's very hot, the road condition is good.
On the other side of the valley you can see the Granier in the Chartreuse Massif and also the Nivolet peak on the Bauges side, sometimes the pleasant sound of Tarine cows' bells breaks the silence.
For the strong ones who want to add some difficulty, at Boisserette you can cut the following lace by taking the Chemin du Four (be careful because then you will have to cross the road) then at Thoiry on the right the Chemin des Chavonnettes (very steep) which joins the main road above.
I checked that the traffic was moderate but I left early, during the week and outside the holiday period, I doubt that during the summer season it will be the case, especially after Thoiry because you join the road from Chambéry.
If you need water before the summit, in Thoiry turn left towards St Alban Leysse and just behind the first house there is a drinking water basin (be careful when you open the tap it spurts out loud)
For those who come by car, practical question, I advise you the carpooling area of Bois Plan direction St Baldoph from Challes les Eaux, in addition it allows a small warm-up of 2-3km with passage under the benevolent eyes of Johnny and Gainsbourg.
Have a good ride and be careful
