A good climb for a roughly 2 hour loop from Grenoble, descending the main route from the Col de Porte. Starts gentle, following the river up from Saint Egreve. After crossing a bridge, the road then navigates a narrow ridge between two branches of the river. This is the steepest section, with gradients around 12%, and lasts for a couple of kilometres until the road bears right towards Quaix-en-Chartreuse. A short flat section brings you into Quaix, before a short descent. There are a couple of t... read more

This is the steepest section, with gradients around 12%, and lasts for a couple of kilometres until the road bears right towards Quaix-en-Chartreuse. A short flat section brings you into Quaix, before a short descent. There are a couple of tight turns on this descent, and the last left turning hairpin sharpens considerably so watch out. After this come a few gentler kilometres, joining the route from Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux. The climb then remains steep ~9% to the end. Overall this climb has great scenery, and low traffic, making it really nice to ride. At the Col, one can either continue the last few km to the Col de Porte, or turn back to Grenoble.

It's hard to find your rhythm on the first part of the climb to Quaix-en-Chartreuse. The second part is much steadier, making it easier to find your rhythm. This pass should be followed by the end of the Col de Porte. The ascent of Palaquit is a "classic" climb, which helps to offer a range of routes leading up to the Col de Porte, thus helping to vary the outings.

This is a route I ride very regularly because it's so close to Grenoble city centre. It starts out a little dry on the "saucisse" (St-Egrève, St Martin le Vinoux), but you're soon out in the countryside. Once you reach the Col de Clémencière, there's a short descent to take the Sarcenas road (quite steep) towards the pass. A walk in the middle of the mountains, varied and magnificent scenery (views of the Vercors and Chartreuse, babbling brooks, etc.), virtually no cars. I love it!

J'adore !

Hello, first hrs category for me with my 10kg Gravel. I set off on 15 December and it snowed a few days before.
I went from Noyarey to saint egreve to warm up on the flat and then started the climb up the mountain. Wet and cold all the way. I was warned. The laces of the monta are steep but if you take it easy it's a smooth ride. Quaix. Then this descent in the fog that froze me. I'm riding in the shade on a cold December morning, and the sun will only shine towards the summit. In the meantime, things are going pretty well up to Sarcenas where I personally need to relaunch regularly because I'm getting tired. We pass Palaquit and then another 2.5 km to the Col de Porte.
The ascent was made without too much heart to discover.

This route is in fact a much longer but quieter variant of the access to the Porte pass: the Palaquit pass is about 2,5 km before the Porte pass, on the main road coming from Grenoble itself. Much shorter, and intermediate between the two, is the access to Palaquit by the Col de Clémencières, which joins this route at about km 9.
