I totally agree with RvR. Last year it had fresh chip and seal and I didn’t recommend it but now it’s settled and makes for good climbing. It meets with d441 and a left there (or if you return for the descent) you can go to Osse en Aspe which is beautiful. Or at the top, go left and climb the remainder of Col de la Pierre-St Matin. That’s what I did yesterday and then rode the descent of La Pierre to Arrete to take advantage of the road surface for a hair raising descent

The road surface is ok, it was reasonably quiet, only a handful of cyclists along the way.
The view of the col itself is nothing, you'd better cycle on to the col de Soudet (4 km further on) for the beautiful views.
Col de Labays vanuit Lourdios, mooie klim, zeker de moeite waard wat mij betreft. In ieder geval als je van afwisseling houdt qua landschap/uitzicht, het eerste stuk in een smalle vallei met hoge imponerende rotswanden, en later door de bossen verder omhoog.
Ook qua hellingspercentage wordt het geen moment saai. Vanaf het begin worden steile stukken afgewisseld door vlakke stukken, of weer omlaag, en dan ineens weer steil omhoog. Pas de laatste 5 km zijn redelijk stabiel qua %.
Als je van een gelijkmatige klim houdt moet je hier in ieder geval niet zijn..
Wegdek is ok, het was verder redelijk rustig, een hand vol fietsers onderweg tegengekomen.
Het uitzicht op de col zelf stelt niets voor, je kan beter even doorfietsen naar de col de Soudet (4 km verder) voor de mooie views.
