Insane grades on a badly damaged - mostly gravel, some patches of bad tarmac until you leave the forest - and narrow road. Cars in either direction can hardly pass and I went off "road" a few times to give way. Summit sign just after the auberge, in a wide open field. You can take on another path - less insane, but hardly a road too - that will bring you back down a bit higher up the Aspin and which is much safer than descending back the way you came.... read more

Tough climb with few "rest stops", but fantastically beautiful among the forests.

The road is not fully asphalted and there are pebbles on some sections. But all in all doable with the racing bike.

The road is well damaged by the logging machines, even transformed into a track in some places (tarmacking is not very likely due to these activities)
Long slopes without respite before leaving the forest and being able to breathe a little.
Road to be avoided on the way down: prefer the track that leads to the Aspin pass, not in good condition either (for the same reason as the climb from Payolle) but with limited slopes that allow you to go down gently without heating up the brakes.
(route taken at the end of April 2021)
