You can take the small winding road through the residential area beforehand to avoid the N340 completely. The small climb itself is really great with perfect asphalt and virtually no traffic. At the end, the Mirador de Cerro Gordo awaits with a perfect view to the west over the Mediterranean. As already mentioned, the descent on the other side is in much worse asphalt condition, but still not bad to ride on 28mm tubeless tires. As already mentioned, the descent on the other side is in much worse asphalt condition, but still not bad to ride on 28mm tubeless tires. If you want to go back down to La Herradura, it is definitely worth taking the N340, the asphalt is perfect and the traffic is much less of a nuisance downhill.

The route was resurfaced in 2024 and is magnificent. A very fine ascent, made several times. It's a shame that the side leading down to Nerja has not yet been resurfaced.

Worn tarmac, very little traffic because an otherwise unused road since there is a tunnel. Lovely view from the top
