This was the first climb of my past bikepacking trip through the Andes. Arriving in Mendoza on a Sunday morning, I found a completely dead city; there wasn't a soul on the streets. Once I decided to bike up Cerro de la Gloria and the connecting Parque San Martín as a warm-up for the real work later in the week, I found out where everyone was. People were enjoying recreation on the mountain and in the park: hiking, running, biking or just picnicking. It gave the mountain a wonderful vibe to bike up.

The climb itself is not very difficult and the views of Mendoza were a bit disappointing. The views of the high Andean peaks on the other side were very nice though. All in all, a nice mountain to cycle up on Sunday afternoons or do some interval training on.

At the top of the climb is the Monumento al Ejército de Los Andes, honoring the Army of the Andes that crossed the Andes in 1817 to end Spanish rule in South America and help gain independence from countries such as Chile and Peru. This monument was very popular for tourists to take a picture of.
