This was the first climb of my past bikepacking trip through the Andes. Arriving in Mendoza on a Sunday morning, I found a completely dead city; there was not a soul on the streets. Once I decided to cycle up Cerro de la Gloria and the connecting Parque San Martín as a warm-up for the real thing later in the week, it turned out where everyone was. People were recreating nicely on the mountain and in the park: walking, running, cycling or just having a picnic. It gave the mountain a lovely vibe to cycle up.
The climb itself is not very difficult and the views over Mendoza were a bit disappointing. The views of the high Andean peaks on the other side were very nice though. All in all, a nice mountain to cycle up on Sunday afternoons or do some interval training on.
At the top of the climb is the 'Monumento al Ejército de Los Andes', honouring the Army of the Andes that crossed the Andes in 1817 to end Spanish rule in South America and help gain independence from countries such as Chile and Peru. This monument was very popular for tourists to take a photo of.
