Gosh, I was staying in Matrei am Brenner, so yeah, you have to tick this one off from Innsbruck. Busy track, crazy drivers, good road surface.
Tick it off and never drive special again, unless you have to cross it towards Italy.

The Brenner is of course a world famous road, for truckers that is. On the bike it is fun but not really a challenge.
In 2017 on our way to Bolzano for the start of Giro di Kika we spent the night in Telfes with view on the Brenner, the next day on the bike and the ladies with the caravan.
The road is good and reasonably safe, local traffic but almost no foreigners or trucks that race past you.
You ride through idyllic villages and that is for an Alpine lover enjoy. No steep parts and only after Griess you can push for a final sprint.
At the top it is very busy with shoppers etc. We then continued cycling to Bolzano via an old railway through the mountains was quiet and enjoy.
