A recommended climb. I started in Applecross (twice because I set off in the wrong direction first time -there are no signs saying ‘this way’). From there the climb is marginally easier than from Tornapress. I started before 07.00 to avoid the traffic (3rd June= campervan season), consequently it was very light. It was dry and 9c at the start, the top was covered in cloud and 6c, I did not dally, after a cup of tea I headed down the switchbacks. Super new road surface a lot of the way, smoot... read more

Super new road surface a lot of the way, smooth, fast, not much camber on the bends, so kept the speed down (only hit 50kph). The cafe at Tornapress served a huge cooked breakfast and giant double shot cappuccino, a just reward for the effort. Note: It is billed as a tough climb/steepest in the UK etc but actually not too bad if you are fit, and less difficult than say, Mt. Ventoux…

The climb is slightly less strenuous and has less steep sections than from the other side, but the views are phenomenal.

De klim is iets minder zwaar en heeft minder steile stukken dan van de andere kant, maar de uitzichten zijn fenomenaal.

Climbed this as my return trip from Applecross to Tornapress having already gone the other way. It's a more gentle climb overall and never gets crazy steep. Great scenery on a sunny day. Well worth doing.
