For the challenge, you shouldn't take this one. Unless you want to test mental strength. Straight ahead and seems endless. Can you ride up smoothly though. Once you get the right cadence, it's okay. Recommended not to do alone.... Just because of that 'mental factor'.... read more

Boring long climb that goes mostly straight and is nowhere exciting in terms of percentages. At one point you have a bike path, which is nice with the traffic.
Should you want to climb Baraque Michel I would 'm from Lac de la Gileppe or from Membach, much nicer versions

Psychologically tough climb (yet challenging as a result) as you only ride on wide roads and it is largely an endless runner. Beautiful green scenery, though. From the start you can already see the road going up as a straight line. After the first bend comes a bike lane which does make it a bit more relaxed mentally because cars're driving fast here. Two bends further, you see a stretch of almost 3 kilometres stretching ahead of you and it feels long before you reach the T-junction (nice view to the back). From here, no more bike lane but relatively soon it flattens out a bit, Baraque Michel follows and then another small incline to the top. More a good link route than a nice climb but the scenery is beautiful and oh well.... still it has something so's endless uphill road in front of you.

This climb is not really difficult, not really steep and there is a lot of traffic. You do have a very nice bike path on most of it and very wide but the cars do drive past you really fast and short

If you start in Betane, you have a 14.55-kilometre climb and around 450 altimeters. There may be some flat sections in there, but you're still climbing for a particularly long time for Benelux. The road is not very exciting, but you are safe because you can ride on the bike path.

Nice climb with which you actually finish the ascent from Eupen via Lac de La Gileppe. After Baraque Michel, you can continue to Signal de Botrange, so you can include the highest point of Belgium.

A long and steady climb to the highest point in Belgium, but the fact that it is a national road does not make it very pleasant. The view at the top is however worth the detour.

Cycled in the summer of 2020. Not really special: nice for some extra heightmeters, but for the surroundings you don't have to detour.

Nice for the altimeters, but otherwise only as a west-east connection after the nice road through Solwaster because after that there is little choice.

In my opinion, the climb starts at Bètâne which means that the climb covers almost 450 hm.
