Apostelenberg via Sonsbeek

The slope actually starts at the railway line but then you soon encounter traffic lights, so it makes sense that the signposted route only starts from there. You follow a busy road but ride yourself along a cycle path with excellent tarmac and pick up quite a bit of greenery. The Park Sonsbeek fence on the left gives a nice indication of the gradient.

Surely this one is tougher than you think and that is mainly because of its length. Just before the entrance to Sonsbeek, the bit of misery that goes into this road begins. But it's just enough to let you know for a moment that gravity is doing its thing here too.

Nice for when you're in the area but really not very exciting, partly because of the traffic next to it.

The most beautiful park in the Netherlands on the left and old houses on the right - that's what you cycle between. Unfortunately, the road is busy and there is only a narrow cycle lane. Straight on, the climb continues for a long time, but you have to cross the road for it. If you continue straight on, it is actually a very long climb. From the bottom of Sonsbeek to the highest point of the Veluwe north of Groenendaal a few kilometres further on.
