Very steep in the last 6km. There is a point, probably about 3km from the top where you look up at a road on the hill above and I challenge any reasonably normal rider to not think "OMG I'm never going to get up that" I was riding a 34 on the front and 36 on the rear and it was right on the edge (for me) but saying that I'm really glad I rode it and feel proud I made it up, the top is a bit of an anti climax after the epicness of the last part of the climb , good luck :-)
When I passed in September 2025 there were roadworks but that means new asphalt in 2026. Lovely climb, winding through villages and a forest before ending up on the ridge before the final ascent to Angliru. That one is very steep but rewards you with beautiful views. Bring the big gears or keep some in reserve to power through that steep section.
Very beautiful climb past idyllic countryside and villages from the past. Signs on the climb inform you of the gradient for the next section. Pretty good road surface but lots of cow and horse poo. Couple of pretty steep and tricky sections but with hairpins eventually for respite. If you’re in the area then this is a climb not to miss for sure!
