Mooie omgeving om in te fietsen en deze klim maakt dat alleen maar interessanter. Er zit nog een kort stukje dalen in alvorens je aan het steilste stuk begint.
Nice climb from s'-Gravenvoeren to "boaven de Wesch" Noorbeek. Approach via Vitschen and keep left at the junction at café De Wandelaar. Also keep left at the next junction. The first part can be considered as false flat. Around the entrance of the Molenhoeve the real climb starts. In the forest, you ride over a mix of what looks like asphalt and concrete. By the time you enter the Netherlands, you have the steepest part of the climb behind you and the road surface is of decent quality again.
Leuke klim vanuit s'-Gravenvoeren naar "boaven de Wesch" Noorbeek. Aanrijden via Vitschen en op de splitsing bij café De Wandelaar links aanhouden. Ook op de volgende splitsing links aanhouden. Het eerste deel kan je beschouwen als vals plat. Ongeveer t.h.v. inrit van de Molenhoeve gaat de echte klim beginnen. In het bos rijdt je over een mix van wat lijkt op asfalt en beton. Op het moment dat je Nederland binnenrijdt heb je het steilste deel van de klim achter de rug en heeft ook het wegdek weer een fatsoenlijke kwaliteit.

About the climb: You first ride into a beautiful valley on a gently rising road. Beautiful surroundings here. After the turnoff for Castle Altenbroek the road goes into a deep side valley and the road surface changes from asphalt to a coarse concrete-like surface that most resembles rock hard gravel. The percentage does go up nicely here and the valley sometimes comes into view on the left. Just before the end, the (flatter) road becomes an asphalt road again. A nice climb but there are nicer ones in this area.
In januari 2022 staat er aan het begin van deze klim een bord dat de weg niet toegankelijk is, en verderop staan hekken, maar er wordt (bij de hekken) een uitzondering gemaakt voor fietsers. Vrijwel bovenin is de linker zijkant van de weg verdwenen maar er is nog ruim voldoende weg over. Je kan hier wel mooi de diepte in kijken.
Over de klim: Je rijdt eerst een fraai dal in over een rustig stijgende weg. Mooie omgeving hier. Na de afslag voor Kasteel Altenbroek gaat de weg een diep zijdal in en verandert het wegdek van asfalt naar een grof betonnen wegdek dat qua structuur het meest weg heeft van keiharde gravel. Het percentage gaat hier wel lekker omhoog en het dal komt links soms mooi in beeld. Vlak voor het eind wordt de (vlakker wordende) weg weer een asfaltweg. Een leuke klim maar er zijn mooiere in deze omgeving.
The first section is concrete mixed with packed dirt, a bit rough but still very much doable on a road bike. The second, upper part, is asphalt (directly from the border upwards). The side of the road roughly 2/3's of the way up has washed away in the storms of july 2021 but there are fences bordering that part of.
In short: a fun ascent through the forest!
nice climb, but all unpaved. bad for a bike. within a few hnoderd meters one of us had a flat tire. then the rest of the piece walked. for mountain bikers very nice.

The climb quietly runs through the valley of the Noorbeek River, until after a left turn the road suddenly winds up steeply between the trees. Welcome cooling down on this hot day (evening ride still 28 degrees) in the shadow of first the steep hill next to the road and then the trees.
The road surface is bad, especially in the flatter first part with many holes.

For a change of scenery the Altenbroek is not so bad. Especially on a hot day with the sun burning, this climb is a good place to cross the border because you're cycling in the shade of the trees. The road surface is a bit of a strange weathered concrete one on the Flemish side. As soon as you enter The Netherlands it suddenly becomes nice tarmac :)
Om eens af te wisselen is de Altenbroek nog helemaal niet zo verkeerd. Zéker op een hete dag met brandende zon is deze klim een goede plek om de grens over te steken omdat je in de schaduw van de bomen fietst. Het wegdek is een beetje vreemd verweerd beton aan de Vlaamse zijde. Zodra je Nederland in rijdt wordt het pardoes mooi asfalt :)
Excellent and wonderfully quiet crossing of the Voerstreek to South-Limburg. Road surface is not really good at the bottom of the climb, but still doable.
Prima en heerlijk rustige doorsteek van de Voerstreek naar Zuid-Limburg. Wegdek is onderaan de klim niet echt goed, maar nog goed te doen.
The asphalt is reasonably ok, even as a descent.
As with Schophemerheide, Ulvend, Gieveld, Beusdael castle are all better ways to get from Belgium to the Netherlands.
