Beginning of the climb, as pointed out by others, is indeed hard to find. From the church in Plombières, head towards Moresnet. At the start, road bends to the right. In the bend is a small road to the right that is only accessible to local traffic. However, it is the start of the climb that runs steadily up the whole length between houses. At the former water tower, you are at the top.
Begin van de klim is zoals door andere al aangegeven inderdaad lastig te vinden. Vanaf de kerk in Plombières ga je richting Moresnet. In het begin maakt weg een bocht naar rechts. In de bocht is een weggetje naar rechts dat alleen toegankelijk is voor lokaal verkeer. Het is echter wel het begin van de klim die over de gehele lengte tussen de huizen gestaag omhoog loopt. Bij de vml. watertoren ben je op de top.
If you descend this road first, you'll find the start in no time, otherwise it may take a while to find the Kalottenhof. You could also go via the Rue Hack (then you just have to follow the road up) but then you miss a nice steep part, even though the asphalt of that street is a bit poor. Once you go up on the regular road, you get excellent asphalt under your wheels. The first part has some gentle curves and sometimes views to the right. Finally you get a (still quite long) straight road in front of you where you already see the endpoint of the climb (at the old water tower).
Als je deze eerst afdaalt heb je het begin zo gevonden, anders kan het even zoeken zijn naar de Kalottenhof. Je zou ook via de Rue Hack kunnen aanrijden (dan hoef je verder gewoon de weg omhoog te volgen) maar dan mis je wel een lekker steil stukje, ook al is het asfalt van dat straatje wel wat matig. Zodra je op de reguliere weg naar boven gaat krijg je prima asfalt onder de wielen. Het eerste deel hiervan heeft wat flauwe bochten en soms uitzicht naar rechts. Uiteindelijk krijg je een (nog behoorlijk lange) rechte weg voor je waar je het eindpunt van de klim (bij de oude watertoren) al ziet liggen.
Poorly signposted at the bottom, it starts on a sort of parallel road where non-locals are not allowed at all, before the climb turns into a super tight and wide tarmac road. Difficult? Yes, at the bottom because of the high gradient, and at the top because you have to find your rhythm on a straight road without much reference. Quite nice on the way to the south.
Slecht aangegeven onderin, het begint op een soort parallelweg waar je als niet-local helemaal niet mag komen, voordat de klim overgaat op een superstrakke en brede asfaltweg. Lastig? Ja toch wel, onderin door het hoge stijgingspercentage, en bovenin omdat je op een rechte weg zonder veel referentie je ritme moet zien te vinden. Best leuk om weg naar het zuiden.
Access via Kallotenhof Street (15％) or Hack Street (7％). Then nice, steady climb. Good surface. Main climb of the GP de Plombières (early August).
