This climb was included in the finals of the 2023 NK. That may also explain why the climb is now apparently open to cycling tourists, as the ramp now states that the road is clear for cyclists, and next to the barrier at the top of the climb--which was closed today--is now a passing opening for cyclists. The climb is a nice one with even some kinks. A nice climb to imagine yourself the new 'Dylan van Baarle' for a while.
Deze klim was opgenomen in de finalelus van het NK 2023. Dat verklaart wellicht ook waarom de klim nu is opengesteld voor fietsrecreanten, want bij de opgang staat nu dat de weg vrij is voor fietsers en naast de slagboom op de top van de klim--die vandaag gesloten was--is nu een passeeropening voor fietsers. De klim is een mooie met zelfs nog wat knikjes. Een mooie klim om je even de nieuwe 'Dylan van Baarle' te wanen.
The climb: Short but nice spicy climb through some park-like terrain and over perfect tarmac.
The accessibility: Well that's a bit vague. At the start there is an (open) barrier and no less than 2 signs with "Verboden toegang" but there are also markings of an MTB route (NK2019) and these also continue to the top of the climb. So it seems that cyclists are allowed to ride this stretch.
Where the MTB route turns off the road (at the top of the climb) there is again a sign "Forbidden access" (but then you have already completed the climb. Further on, there is another barrier and another one at the exit. These were now open and local cyclists (I met some) often take this loop anyway, so apparently it is tolerated and the barriers are open. By the way, if the latter are closed, they cannot be passed by bike (the first one at the start of the climb I expect).
De klim: Korte maar lekker pittige klim door een soort parkachtig terrein en over perfect asfalt.
De toegankelijkheid: Tja dat is een beetje vaag. Bij het begin is een (openstaande) slagboom en maar liefst 2 bordjes met "Verboden toegang" maar er zijn óók markeringen van een MTB-route (NK2019) en die lopen ook door tot de top van de klim. Het lijkt er dus op dat fietsers wel dit stuk mogen rijden.
Waar de MTB-route van de weg afbuigt (op de top van de klim) staat wéér een bord "Verboden toegang" (maar dan heb je de klim dus al achter de rug. Verderop is dan ook nog een slagboom en bij de uitgang weer één. Deze stonden nu open en lokale racefietsers (ik kwam er enkele tegen) pikken toch vaak dit lusje mee dus blijkbaar wordt het gedoogd én staan de slagbomen open. Als deze laatste dicht zijn zijn deze overigens fietsend niet te passeren (de eerst bij het begin van de klim nog wel verwacht ik).
I climbed this one in Limburg Mooiste 2023 and I found it pretty tough. It is only 500 metres (it goes on a bit more than indicated in the graph) but you really have to pedal. You turn from a narrow road into a dark forest and up to the slight bend it's nice pedalling. But once through the bend it shoots into double figures, according to my navigation and feeling my legs, because looking ahead it doesn't seem too bad, only it takes a very long time before the next bend arrives. Once you're through the bend, it's easy to ride the last bit of false flat, past the talent centre located there and down past the monastery. Note there is a right-angled bend in here. Detail the NK for pros also went over it this year, but that still seemed a lot easier than what I had experienced.
Ik heb deze bedwongen in Limburg Mooiste 2023 en ik vond hem behoorlijk pittig. Het is maar 500 meter(hij loopt nog iets door dan in de grafiek aangegeven) maar je moet echt aan de bak. Je draait vanaf een smal weggetje een donker bos in en tot aan het flauwe bochtje is het lekker trappen. Maar eenmaal door de bocht schiet ie in de dubbele cijfers, volgens mijn navigatie en voelend aan mijn benen, want voor je uit kijkend lijkt het wel mee te vallen, alleen duurt het wel heel lang voordat die volgende bocht er aankomt. Ben je door de bocht dan is het op het gemak het laatste stukkie vals plat afleggen, langs het talent centrum wat daar gelegen is en afdalen langs het klooster. Let op hier zit wel een haakse bocht in. Detail het NK voor profs ging er dit jaar ook overheen, maar dat leek toch een stuk makkelijker dan wat ik had ervaren.
