The most beautiful bike path in South Limburg? At least a podium finish. The gradient is nothing more than false flat but the road surface is as wide as the road, of fine quality and the views enjoyable. Sprinting, pace piece up, time trial, cue cycling. Make it up, it's all possible. And I definitely want to go back and do this one as a downhill.
Het mooiste fietspad in Zuid-Limburg? In ieder geval een podiumplaats. De helling is niet meer dan vals plat maar het wegdek is net zo breed als de weg, van prima kwaliteit en het uitzicht genieten. Sprintjes trekken, tempostuk omhoog, tijdrit, keuvelend fietsen. Verzin het maar, het kan allemaal. En ik wil zeker nog een keer terug om deze als afdaling te doen.
After being closed for months, the Vrakelbergerweg - and all connecting roads - is finally open again. After the little tunnel, a loose and very wide cycle path starts so you are no longer bothered by the often fast other traffic. The cycle path consists mainly of concrete slabs (nice and flat) but the last part consists of well-laid cobblestones. The scenery remains beautiful so if you want to make some'100 altimeters in one of the most beautiful Limburg settings in a relaxed way, this is your thing. And descending here is of course lovely (then you do have to cross the road at the end of the cycle path).
Na maanden afgesloten te zijn geweest is de Vrakelbergerweg - en alle aansluitende wegen - eindelijk weer open. Na het tunneltje begint een los en zeer breed fietspad dus van het vaak snelle overige verkeer heb je geen last meer. Het fietspad bestaat voornamelijk uit betonplaten (mooi vlak) maar het laatste deel bestaat uit goed gelegde klinkers. De omgeving blijft prachtig dus als je in één van de mooiste Limburgse omgevingen op een relaxte manier zo'n 100 hoogtemeters wilt maken is dit je ding. En hier afdalen is uiteraard heerlijk (dan moet je wel aan het eind van het fietspad de weg oversteken).
Links en rechts beginnen veel pittiger klimmen en de keuze is enorm dus je kan je lol hier echt op. Wel beginnen de klimmen aan de zuidkant nu met enkele meters goede gravel (vanwege de aanleg van duikers).
Fine climb in beautiful surroundings with, as already mentioned, beautiful climbs up left and right. Now and again some traffic but since September 2022, a metre-wide cycle path has been constructed on the right-hand side of the road on which one can cycle in both directions. The cycle path is in top condition and there is no contact with other road users.
Fijne klim in een mooie omgeving met zoals al vermeld links en rechts prachtige klimmetjes omhoog. Af en toe wat verkeer maar sinds september 2022 is er een metersbreed fietspad aangelegd aan de rechterkant van de weg waar in beide richtingen op gefietst kan worden. Fietspad ligt er top bij en dus geen contact meer met andere weggebruikers.
This 'climb' runs through a beautiful area and runs (very) slowly up through the valley. It is relatively busy with cars's.
If you really want to climb then I would definitely not cycle this climb, but one (or more) of the many nice and quiet climbs from this valley on your left and right up.
Deze 'klim' loopt door een mooie omgeving en loopt (heel) langzaam door het dal omhoog. Het is er relatief druk met auto's.
Als je echt wilt klimmen dan zou ik deze klim zeker niet uitfietsen, maar een (of meer) van de vele leuke en rustige klimmen kiezen die vanuit dit dal aan zowel je linker- als rechterkant omhoog lopen.
Long, relaxed and very beautiful route through a beautiful, foreign looking valley with left and right nice and steeper climbs.
Lange, relaxte en zeer fraaie route door een prachtig, buitenlands aandoend dal met links en rechts leuke en steilere klimmetjes.
The climb itself is not that much. Mostly false flat, with a nice peak at the end. The scenery is all the better, you cycle through a valley, with several steep climbs on either side. I like to use this road for my intervals. It is a 5 km stretch, without descents, without urban areas, and with few strange side roads. In this corner of Limburg that is always a challenge. The steepness of the road makes it possible to do a HIIT, for example, and to keep the legs still for a while.
De klim zelf stelt niet zo veel voor. Vooral vals plat, met nog een leuke uitschieter aan het einde. De omgeving is des te beter, je fietst door een dal, met aan weerszijden meerdere steile klimmetjes. Ik gebruik de weg ook graag om intervalletjes te draaien. Het is een stuk van 5km, zonder afdalingen, zonder bebouwde kom, en met weinig rare zijwegen. Dat is in deze hoek van Limburg altijd zoeken. Ook de steilte laat het toe om bijvoorbeeld een HIIT te doen, met tussendoor ook even de benen stil houden.
