This climb is not very interesting for the cyclist on holiday, except if he wants to test himself on very steep slopes in order to adjust his gears before attacking the big passes or if he is on holiday around La Rochette.
The road is tarmac all the way,
For the practice and the warming up, it is better to start from the parking of the Lake Saint Clair (WC, drinking water), it will be necessary to fill up the canister before starting because no more supply afterwards.
It will be necessary to turn the legs a little in the valley because that goes up of entry.
At the roundabout on the edge of the lake take the D202 towards the centre of La Rochette, then 1.5 km further on the D209 to the right, you will pass the Cascade cardboard factory.
Climb up to Arvillard on fairly modest slopes between 2 and 5 % then at the exit of the village take the D208 to the left, up to the hamlet of Molliet;at the hamlet of Molliet the slope will increase gently from 6 to 7,5 %, in this first part you can enjoy the landscapes on the valley and the surrounding massifs then you are going to enter the woods the slope becomes very strong from 9 to more than 10 % until the top, there are then more than 10 km.
The tree-lined road twists and turns on a grainy surface that doesn't give back, the bends ( provided you turn wide ) allow you to breathe a little in impressive percentages.
A little after the exit of wood in a bend on the left a wooden panel on the other side of the road indicates Val Pelouse 5,5 km, you can again enjoy the landscape, the slope does not soften and that becomes more complicated, the bends are rare and one is always in catch in large straight lines, it is necessary to manage if not galère.
Arrival of this hard ballade on a large carpark, do not be surprised to find many vehicles there because it is a place appreciated for the departures of pedestrian excursions and also flight of paragliders.
If you have some strength left you can push over the parking lot in a bend to the right there is about 50M left in an undetermined slope.
Be careful in this descent, even at low speed, I let myself get caught up in a bend where I went out a little wide (just a scare), you can let go a little, only after Arvillard until La Rochette.
I did this climb quite a few years ago and the road was not in very good condition in some places, I suppose that over the years it hasn't improved.
Have a nice drive and be careful
