Terribly bad road surface.
The higher you get on the steep section, the more potholes. The road goes straight uphill, so that the courage sinks in, as you look up from below.

Hoe hoger je komt op het steile stuk, hoe meer putten. De weg gaat rechtdoor omhoog, zodat de moed je in de schoenen zakt, wanneer je van onderen naar boven kijkt.
Zigzagging up between a road surface like cheese potholes. This is one of those typical steep climbs in this area. Narrow road, another stretch through a residential area, very poor road surface but really worth testing yourself on.
Zigzaggend tussen een wegdek als gatenkaas omhoog. Dit is zo één van die typische steile beklimmingen in deze omgeving. Smalle weg, nog een stuk door een woonwijk, zeer slecht wegdek maar echt de moeite om jezelf eens op te testen.

Dans le Top 10 des pires montées de Belgique et pas uniquement à cause de son dénivelé mais bien à cause de l'état de la route.
Cela monte sec pendant 4 à 500 mètres. Puis cela devient raisonnable avec un dénivelé qui descend régulièrement pour terminer en faux plat à Marchin.

You must visit it. It is located among trees and lots of shade. It does not have a good view or a perfect tarmac, but it is a must. You won't meet any cyclists and if you are unlucky, you will only find a car in front of you that will always give way to your effort. You can't zigzag uphill because the asphalt won't allow it. You have to save your strength, otherwise you will put your foot down in the middle of the climb. At the end you will find a good tarmac. You don't need to bring your MTB, with a road bike and a 28 in the back is enough....
Je moet het bezoeken. Het is gelegen tussen bomen en veel schaduw. Het heeft geen goed uitzicht of een perfect asfalt, maar het is een aanrader. U zult geen fietsers tegenkomen en als u pech hebt, zult u alleen een auto voor u vinden die altijd voor uw inspanning zal wijken. Je kunt niet zigzaggend omhoog omdat het asfalt dat niet toelaat. Je moet je krachten sparen, anders zet je midden in de klim je voet op de grond. Aan het eind zal je een goed asfalt vinden. Je hoeft je MTB niet mee te nemen, met een racefiets en een 28 achterin is genoeg...
The climb is indeed harder than its famous brother. The bad road surface does not help. The steep part seems to go on and on.
De klim is inderdaad zwaarder dan zijn bekende broertje. Het slechte wegdek helpt daarbij niet. Het steile stuk lijkt maar niet op te houden.
Harder than the Huy wall but more constant. The road is quite straight and the surface is not too hard. For me, this is one of the most complicated walls in the region. Even if the end is less steep, it feels like the climb never ends. Fortunately, it's quiet. An average cyclist will wear a size 36/28 to keep a certain (relative) comfort.
Plus dur que le mur de Huy mais plus constant. ça monte fort sans répit. La route est assez rectiligne et le revêtement ne rend pas trop. C'est pour moi un des murs de la région les plus compliqués à passer. Même si la fin est moins raide, on a l'impression que la montée ne finit pas. Heureusement, c'est calme. Un cyclosportif moyen adoptera du 36/28 pour garder un certain confort (très relatif).

Montée très raide et rendue d'autant plus difficile en raison d'un revêtement extrêmement dégradé ce qui rajoute à la difficulté d'autant que la route est très étroite et que c'est compliqué quand on croise un véhicule.

What a beast of a climb this is! Where you have less steep parts on the Muur, this one seems to be one steep line going up that just doesn't seem to stop. Without a doubt one of the toughest climbs in Belgium!
Wat een beest van een klim is dit zeg! Waar je op de Muur minder steile stukjes hebt, lijkt dit wel één steile lijn naar boven die maar niet lijkt op te houden. Zonder twijfel één van de zwaarste beklimmingen van België!

Je kunt ook de steile weg links nemen (Vieux Thier de Huy) deze kent extreem steile stukjes asfalt. Echter doordat het hierna direct ook weer afvlakt, is deze misschien net iets minder zwaar dan de Thier de Huy; maar zeker vergelijkbaar met de Muur van Hoei.
A lot heavier than the wall. The best part is when you do not have a car in front of you on the narrow sections. Classification is important (after the first 100 meters you think you are there ... nothing is less true).
Een stuk zwaarder dan de muur. Het leukst is het als je geen auto als tegenligger hebt op de smalle stukken. Indelen is belangrijk (na de eerste 100 meter denk je dat je er bent ... niets is minder waar).
