If you happen to be on the island of Hadseløya with sunny weather and you want a challenge to burn off the Kanelsnurr (cinnamon bun) from Mormor’s cafe…then take on Storheia!

We started in Stokmarkness, a nice warm up along the coast anticlockwise before turning off right. You come to a gate, pass through (yay traffic free) to a neat and smooth asphalt lane. Here’s the start of the Strava segment.

First 2-3km undulate with views ahead of what’s to come, then a brutal 2-3km section that Garmin read 12-18% with beautiful views to your left and right. The gradient eases a little in the 8-12% allowing you to catch you breath and prepare for the final 1-2km of out the saddle or the Marcel Kittlel weave to finish off your legs!
If you haven’t been high up in the Lofoten Islands before this, the views are wonderful and worth the kanelsnurr before the start!

Even better if you have gravel bikes (40c tyres we had) you can descend down the single tracks and through some forest (with some hike-er-bike depending on your off road ability) toward Stokmarkness to make a loop instead of an out and back.

Pretty steep and irregular climb in the beautiful Lofoten. There is brand new tarmac, so the climb is in good shape. Last year, the climb was used as an uphill finish in the Arctic Race of Norway.

Flink steile en onregelmatige klim in het prachtige Lofoten. Er ligt splinternieuw asfalt, dus de klim ligt er goed bij. Vorig jaar is de klim gebruikt als aankomst bergop in de Arctic Race of Norway.
