The back side of Fromberg. Not too steep but doesn't run well either, perhaps partly because of the curves. You ride largely in open territory which is pleasant.
De achterkant van de Fromberg. Niet te steil maar loopt ook niet goed, misschien mede door de bochten. Je rijdt grotendeels in open gebied wat wel aangenaam is.
The climb starts on the Valkenburgerweg as you enter Ransdalerstraat. After the railway tunnel, turn right before the Schoonbron high-voltage substation onto Scheumerweg. Once you're on this road for a bit, you can actually see the summit in the distance. After the turn to the left, it gradually climbs up to the summit. If you already have a lot of altimeters in your legs at the time of this climb, it can be quite painful....
De klim begint op de valkenburgerweg als je de Ransdalerstraat opgaat. Na het spoortunneltje ga je voor het hoogspanningstation Schoonbron rechtsaf de Scheumerweg op. Zodra je een stukje op deze weg zit zie je in de verte de top eigenlijk al liggen. Na de bocht naar links stijgt het tot aan de top geleidelijk omhoog. Als je op het moment van deze klim al veel hoogtemeters in de benen hebt kan het behoorlijk pijn doen....
The backside of Fromberg, which many people know only as a descent. But as a climb it's funny too. After going up the Scheumerweg you actually see immediately where you have to go. However, you come here with some right-angled turns and through an open landscape. It doesn't seem that steep, it may not be, but it doesn't run smoothly either. Just before the summit, one last kink where it gets a bit steeper. Then comes the reward in the descent with stunning views.
De achterzijde van de Fromberg die menigeen alleen als afdaling kent. Maar als klim ook wel grappig. Nadat je de Scheumerweg op bent gegaan zie je eigenlijk meteen waar je naar toe moet. Je komt hier echter met wat haakse bochten en door een open landschap. Het lijkt niet zo steil, dat is het misschien ook niet, maar het loopt ook niet lekker. Vlak voor de top nog een laatste knikje waar het wat steiler wordt. Daarna volgt de beloning in de afdaling met schitterende uitzichten.
Nice and varied climb. After the little tunnel the road gets wider with bicycle lanes but this is also one of the toughest parts of the climb. After you have turned right you enter a beautiful small and winding road through agricultural land. Very nice views on the way and also at the finish. The bush which is the final destination is soon in sight. The climb becomes more relaxed here, only just before the end there is a steep bit.
The funny thing is that from this side you see many cyclists descending but none climbing, while this side (or the other two western climbs) is more difficult. People sometimes let themselves be forced by a route too much ;-)
Mooie en gevarieerde klim. Na het tunneltje wordt de weg even breder met fietsstroken maar dit is ook meteen één van de zwaarste stukken van de klim. Nadat je rechtsaf bent gegaan ga je een mooi klein en slingerend weggetje door agrarisch land in. Heel fraaie uitzichten onderweg en ook op het eindpunt. Het bosje wat het einddoel is heb je al snel in beeld. De klim wordt hier relaxter, alleen vlak voor het eind nog een steil stukje.
Frappante is dat je van deze kant zeer veel fietsers ziet afdalen maar er geen één ziet klimmen, terwijl deze kant (of de twee andere westelijke beklimmingen) toch zwaarder is. Mensen laten zich soms te veel door een route dwingen ;-)
A wonderful climb. Not too steep: after the little tunnel it briefly touches the 8％. Then the road goes nicely up to the 'top' of Fromberg. When the wind has free reign it is raking! Because the road runs through the meadows on the back of a hill you have no shelter. Along the way you are treated to fantastic views over the Geul valley. At the t-junction (during the descent) you can choose: either you go left and follow the road parallel to the Colmont valley (beautiful views) or you go right and descend towards the hamlet Fromberg.
Een heerlijke klim. Niet al te steil: na het tunneltje tikt het eventjes de 8％ aan. Vervolgens loopt de weg lekker lopend naar de 'top' van de Fromberg. Als de wind vrij spel heeft is het harken geblazen! Omdat de weg door de weilanden loopt op de rug van een heuvel heb je geen beschutting. Onderweg wordt je getrakteerd op fantastische vergezichten over het Geuldal. Bij de t-splitsing (tijdens de afdaling) kan je kiezen: ofwel ga je naar links en vervolg je je weg parallel aan het droogdal van Colmont (mooie vergezichten) of ga je naar rechts en daal je af naar het gehuchtje Fromberg.

Lekker klimmetje, wel volledig open vlakte waar de wind soms vrij spel kan hebben. Als je bovenaan de bomen ziet liggen nog 2 traps steiler stukje. Als je aan het einde van de weg linksaf slaat heb je nog een uitloper van zo'n 3km vals plat tot Ubachsberg
A lovely runner with a nice steep bit at the end. Fantastic views. Nicer than the 'normal' Fromberg.
