If you shy away from the idea of climbing the very difficult Col du Granier via Chapareillan, this climb is a less arduous alternative. That said, it's not to be underestimated. Long, very exposed to the sun in the first part, then more sheltered but uneven, it has a few short, steep sections.

There are some fine views of the Isère valley and the Montmélian cluse along the way. In the distance, towards the rear, you can sometimes make out Mont Blanc.

Those feeling sufficiently fit can then continue to the Col de Marcieu and then the Plateau des Petites Roches, via a rollercoaster route.
