Super quiet climb that we included on the Durance Balcony route. Road is super smooth and climb is steady with good views in many places. The summit is a little less than inspiring as its in the village and just a tiny sign.
Wide road in good condition.
The climb is steady (a little steeper towards the end).
Exposed to the sun in the middle of the day and at the height of summer.
Nice view from the top (in the resort).
The descent is quick and easy.
To be done in addition to another pass in the area (after the Izoard, for example).
Route large et en bon état.
La montée est régulière (un peu plus pentue vers la fin).
Exposée au soleil en milieu de journée et en plein été.
Jolie vue au sommet (dans la station donc).
Descente facile et rapide.
A faire en complément d'un autre col du secteur (après l'Izoard par exemple).
Last Tuesday, 16 July, from Guillestre, we did this climb.
From the centre of the village it is just over 14 kilometres to the summit.
Afgelopen dinsdag 16 juli vanuit Guillestre deze klim gedaan.
Vanuit het centrum van het dorp is het net iets meer dan 14 kilometer tot de top. Super gelijkmatige klim en eenmaal boven een leuk skidorp met volop terrasjes om lekker te genieten.
Goed wegdek wat prettig is voor de afdaling en relatief weinig verkeer.
Very relaxed ascent (good to do in summer because nice in the shade and little traffic), even ascent and super tarmac making the descent top notch as well. The view at the top is nice, the ski village not so much. The curves named after stage winners add to the fun atmosphere.
Hele relaxte beklimming (goed te doen in de zomer want lekker in de schaduw en weinig verkeer), gelijkmatige stijging en super asfalt waardoor de afdaling ook top is. Het uitzicht boven is mooi, het skidorp niet echt. De naar etappe winnaars vernoemde bochten dragen bij aan een leuk sfeertje.
Great climb for the lesser climber like me. The climb is very steady from the first kilometre. Nice about the climb are the references to various famous cyclists such as Merkx, Hinault, Coppi etc. The road surface is not equally good everywhere so you have to be alert in the descent. On entering Risoul, cycle another 550 metres to finish your climb in the centre of the village.
Heerlijke klim voor de mindere klimmer zoals ik. De klim is heel gelijkmatig vanaf de eerste kilometer. Leuk aan deze klim zijn de verwijzing naar diverse beroemde wielrenners zoals Merkx, Hinault, Coppi etc. Het wegdek is niet overal even goed waardoor je alert moet zijn in de afdaling. Fiets bij de binnenkomst in Risoul nog 550 meter door om je klim midden in het dorpje af te sluiten.
Great warm-up climb to start a stay in Guillestre. There is a bike rental shop at the foot of the climb so also great to do if you have other plans. As you climb mostly through forest, the views during the climb are minimal, but once on top you have a nice view of Guillestre and the valley towards Briancon. A funny detail is that all the curves are named after great cyclists, although I wonder if they all climbed this mountain (I don't know about Coppi, for instance).
Prima opwarmklim om een verblijf in Guillestre mee te beginnen. Aan de voet van de klim ligt een fietsverhuurzaak dus ook prima te doen als je verder andere plannen hebt. Omdat je grotendeels door bos klimt is het uitzicht tijdens de klim miniem, maar eenmaal bovenop heb je een mooi uitzicht op Guillestre en de vallei richting Briancon. Grappig detail is dat alle bochten vernoemd zijn naar grote wielrenners, waarvan ik me overigens afvraag of die allemaal wel deze berg zijn opgeklommen (bij Coppi weet ik het bijvoorbeeld zo net nog niet).

There are a lot of climbs in the area that are nicer than this one. Occasionally you have a bit of a view, but it is not really beautiful. The tarmac is good, the descent easy and in summer it is often quiet here. But I know so many climbs in the area that are more beautiful.

In de buurt liggen een heleboel beklimmingen die mooier zijn dan deze. Af en toe heb je een beetje uitzicht, maar echt mooi is het nergens. Het asfalt is goed, de afdaling eenvoudig en in de zomer is het hier vaak rustig. Maar ik ken in de buurt zoveel beklimmingen die mooier zijn.
Ram........ up on a road that is continuous after the two villages.
I don't like this very much myself. It is more of a condition test.
No beautiful views, no variety.
However, if you are looking for a nice test, there is no better one nearby.
The tarmac is great. The ascending is very continuous. Perhaps it would be nice to add the L'Izoard to the cyclo in the neighborhood ....
Then back to Guillestre, ramming over the beautiful tarmac.

Ram........ omhoog op een weg die na de twee dorpjes continue is.
Ikzelf heb hier niet zoveel mee. Het is meer een conditie test.
Geen mooie uitzichten, geen afwisseling.
Mocht je echter een mooie test zoeken, dan is er geen betere in de buurt.
Het asfalt is heerlijk. Het stijgen heel continue. Misschien heel leuk, om net zoals de cyclo hier in de buurt aan de L'Izoard te plakken....
Daarna weer lekker terug naar Guillestre, rammen over het mooie asfalt.
