Known from the French championship as well as the Tour de France. In 2005 Pierrick Fédrigo became champion here and in 2011 Sylvain Chavanel won the French title here. But the climb is probably better known as the finish of the 3rd stage of the 2012 Tour, where Sagan in his Tour debut won his 2nd stage. The climb even is a real wall for over 300 meters, but when the Porte de Gayole itself comes into view, the percentages decrease. After that, the climb continues for a few hundred meters parallel to the city wall with moderate percentages.
